I did exactly the opposite today for the last stand, this ones for the main stereo in our front room.  I first did it as clear plex but some how the clear dosn't blend well hear. So did some qick 800 wet and dry frosting and am much happier with the end result. and prolly the last one for a while :)

Hi St_Luke (or anyone else)... a late Q sorry...whats the easiest way to 'glue' together clear acrylic sheet pcs, ending up with a clear/transparent joint line?

Acetone no good (at least not nail polish remover).

Chloroform I heard works - but hard to source.

Looks like I'll need a specialist acrylic bonding fluid.

Other?

Cheers, Owen

You can get actual acrylic glue.

But I've been told by those in the industry that the other option is a mix of acetone with acrylic filings stirred in.

Nail polish remover is not pure acetone, it has other stuff in it.

Just like 'rubbing' alcohol has oils etc in it..

Weldon #16  in a blue tube about 8 bux from www.plastix.com.au :)

My "WELD.ON" #16 is in a red tube, 5 FL. OZ. but I'm guessing it is the same stuff. It is made by IPS Corporation in the US, and is the stuff to use,

But... while it says it is: "A clear, syrupy cement for high strength joints" Take that to mean syrupy like 60 Degrees C, heated honey, not room temp honey.

It can be quite runny and fast flowing. Practice is suggested.

Many Thanks, guys.... I read about the Weldon products on USA sites.

Some are v liquid & require needle applic/capillary action into a tight joint, others seem to be more gel like.

I will check out the sources - mail order hopefully.

Cheers, Owen

I dugout a two stage tube preamp I made some years back but wasn't happy how it sounded. It had a hum which on a second look (recently) I had fixed in an hour. Glad I got it out it sounds absolutely excellent. I swapped the stock 12AX7 Sovteks for Gold Lions. But the preamp had too much gain for the Tripath amp I was using it for so I swapped Gold Lions for NOS JAN-GE 12AU7s which have less gain. That worked and the Us sound better than the Xs.

Being over the moon with the sound I ordered some Psvane 12AU7 TII, gold pins. This is Psvane's top of the range U tube. They are short plate which is good for microphonics. Just dropped them in but need 20hours of play before they will come good. So far good.

Found this DIY Dac on the web site at 6moons newsroom recently. Just might be useful for someone undertaking a DIY project.

July 2015 - Roll it up - As some might know, Metrum Acoustics supply their Transient products to other manufacturers. "To give them a kind of exclusivity, all modules are available only to them not DIY but we now have made an exception for the EVA module. DIYers can order this module for €395 ex VAT including the DAC One modules as used in the Pavane. The EVA was made for OEMs to evaluate the DAC One modules. After supplying several EVA boards to the Dutch DIY community, we got a lot of enthusiastic responses as the sound of this board is far beyond the old Philips TDA 1541 and 1543 NOS designs. Despite the lack of flexibility, this board can be used as an upgrade for old CD players but also as an add-on for affordable or DIY streamers to upgrade their sound. The board can handle 192kHz sampling using the S/PDIF input but can also be used (by removing three jumpers) for IsquaredS which can handle 384kHz. Just connecting the board to a transformer having two 10–12 VAC output windings makes it ready for use (or a DC power supply having at least 2 x 10 Volts). In the past this board was delivered with soldered connectors but these will be supplied now separately so the owner can choose their own type of connectors."

This might be considered reason for hanging by some I guess.... I'm modding a Sony TA-2650 integrated amp to become a modest power amp. I bought this item about a year ago, but I never used the preamp section, and only one input. Same on the tape ins and outs... no use. And the selector for A, A+B, B, Off was faulty.

I'll remove (I already did) all the preamp section and run a wire from the back to the front. Stage 1 is ready, what I said before, and it works! Nice to have a free afternoon from time to time to work on one thing only. At the moment I'm using a standard 50K volume pot and it's working fine, actually, nicer than I expected at low volumes.

Here's some pictures of the work in progress. Next step is to change the caps on the power board as well as the big power cap, after that I'll add a microcontroller (now there's space) that will take the duty of power on/off and speaker selection, and update the relevant switches or pushbuttons. Also, I'll rewire the headphone output (still unsure if with another circuit or directly from the power amp). Next, a pair of VU meters (again, space...) and a new black face. It looks good in my head... we'll see how it turns out.

Here some pics of the current Frankenstein....

Hasn't been much building happening at my place lately. Had the day off for Ekka yesterday and had to rearrange some storage shelving in the garage. Best place for the shelves was directly behind my workbench so I decided to utilise the shelf to make the bench a bit more productive, pretty happy with the result so far. Close to being ready to get back to making mess!

@hochopepper

Is that two scopes? Or one frequency and one for time? How happy are you with the Rigols? I'm looking to get a scope and a Quantasylum within six months or so.

EDIT: Oh, hang on... I see, a power supply, and a scope... sweeeeeet! Still, how happy are you with the Rigols?

Yeah it's DP832 PSU - it actually can do a chart of Volts/Amps/Watts over time for each of the PSU channels which is pretty fancy. I want to use it to demonstrate startup current on a PC and PC load behaviour while playing movie etc and a few other things like that.

Very happy with both of them though I haven't used the scope as much as the PSU ... yet.

It's 2 x 6RU racks.

Left rack is computer gear - modem/switch/chrome box running kodi/NAS/UPS/efergy power monitor

Right rack is measurement gear - DP832 PSU/Scope/Isolation transformer and soon to add a low noise measurement preamp/ADC

Where did you get the Rigols from? Fleabay, import? Does someone in Oz deal with them? Maybe I should have a look at RS Online...

I got them from emona who are the au distributor ... I got them before the Aussie dollar tanked so I think prices have gone up a bit since I grabbed them.

Prices have indeed gone up quite a bit. Was looking at a few of there products the other day. Have put in a budget of about $15k for a new scope, analyser, power supply, frequency measuring rig and new variac test bench.

Crap just checked ... combined the scope and psu have gone up by a bit over $300.

15k can go surprisingly quickly with test gear, I haven't spent that much ... yet.
