Hello

I've just recieved the speakers/sub/reciever I purchased of mycenius a while ago but I'm having trouble getting it connected to my computer.

I'm a complete audio beginner and this is my first foray into this kind of thing so excuse any silly questions:p.

He has included what I believe to be a digital/optical cable to connect the receiver to the PC. It looks like this - optical%20cable.jpg.

The problem is my Asus Xonar HDAV 1.3 Deluxe has a round optical/digital socket . It looks like this - http://www.elitebastards.com/hanners/asus/xonar-hdav-deluxe/images/board_backplate.jpg. can I get an adapter or something for it:confused:.

Thanks! any help would be appreciated.

Hi Pocoloco,

Yes I chucked in a Blue Jeans Toslink Optical Cable for you as a bonus (anticipating you'd have a DVD Player to hook up to the Yamaha).

However most sound cards will only have a Co-Ax digital (RCA) output unless it's a higher end model... So yes you will need a (75ohm) RCA Co-Ax lead with an RCA Plug at each end for your soundcard (to stream digital audio to the Yamaha)...

P.S. That's the same type of cable as you would use for Composite Video (like on an old VHS Recorder & TV) - but you want semi-reasonable quality, not the 50c cheap black things with red/white/yellow plastic plugs...

ok here is what the sound card manual says about port 3; first one bellow the HDMI ports.

"S/PDIF Out Port - Coaxial and optical TOSLINK combo digital output port. Connects to an external digital decoder or digital speaker systems, home theater systems, av receivers for outputting digital audio"

I got the sound card second hand but it is supposed to come with this adapter - http://www.audioadvisor.com/images/AQMINITO_2.jpg.

So if I get this adapter I should be able to connect everything up fine..correct?
