carcass Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Hi Guys, today I decided to move my System from one room to another. Naturally, when I hooked it all up again, one channel was down. The 'protect' switch on the Amp usually turns off after a few seconds but now no longer does. I mucked around swapping cables etc to try and figure out if it could be something else, but alas just seems to be the Amp. So its off to the Repairer dammit. Looking for a recommended repairer in the Nelson Region, or somebody to advise on the best retailer (there is a few) as I am reasonably new to the area. 1 X Denon POA6600A. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I love these Amps and I'm sure there is plenty of life still left in them. Briefly checked the recommended repairers section of the Forum but to no avail. Cheers, Mark
Luis1553552738 Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Hi Mark, Radar on this forum has some Denon mono-blocks himself, and lives in Wairau. I'm sure he can give you some advice ( and hopefully won't mind me pointing you in his direction ) as he is very knowledgeable when it comes to hi-fi. Try sending him a PM.
carcass Posted May 14, 2011 Author Posted May 14, 2011 Thanks Luis. Just out of interest, seeing as though you live in Nelson, where would be your first port of call in the area for repairs, or anything hi-fi related?
Luis1553552738 Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 I'd probably talk to Pete ( Radar ) or Colin who is a tech and works from Strawberry Sound at times. I got to know Colin when Pete was working at SS himself. As Pete owns some Denons he may know something which could save you the hassle of taking them for repair.
carcass Posted May 14, 2011 Author Posted May 14, 2011 Cheers, pending further advice, I'll contact them monday. Thanks Luis
carcass Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 Just a quick note of thanks to all concerned with advice to repair the Amp. Special thanks to Colin from Clear Image Audio who repaired the unit in lightning fast time and with the utmost of professionalism. I could not recommend him more. Thanks AudioEnz forum members.
Luckiestmanalive Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Result! What was wrong, as a matter of interest?
carcass Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 Apparently just some cracked solder joints on one or two transistors, probably from moving them. Colin also advised me to connect them to the pre-amp using RCA as opposed to currently connected using XLR. Supposedly would bypass OP amp (?) and produce a higher quality signal. Over the top of my head sadly but I'll give it a go anyway. Now looking for another reasonable quality set of RCA's.
Luckiestmanalive Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Excellent! Not even any failed parts! Except now you'll have a bill for some decent interconnects...
