networkn Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Sometime this year I am scheduled to replace my Mitsi HC6800 which has been pretty good, but I presume now, there are much better units. Should I wait for 4K at a consumer price range if 3D doesn't interest me?
RapalloAV Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 I think you will be waiting years before you will find affordable 4K projectors! Look at an entry level JVC if you want the best blacks on the market, X35 or X55
networkn Posted April 22, 2013 Author Posted April 22, 2013 Hmm reviews for it (x55) are very positive for movie viewing not so complimentary for fast motion such as sports and specifically gaming. Since gaming is 25% of what I do, it may be a deal breaker. Anything else you recommend considering?
Dunnersfella1553552754 Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Panasonic's PT-AE7000 or the newer PT-AE8000 would be my pick. I'm yet to see the Epson Murray's talking about, it would be interesting to compare the two side by side.
Nigel Beale Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 The 8000 has about 20% more luminance over the 7000, measured this myself and can confirm it. The Pany's have a gaming mode with less processing lag if that is of interest.
Marantz Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 There's a Panny 7000 and 8000 on trademe if this is of interest. I have the 8000 myself and couldn't be happier. I tried out 3d for kicks and was quite disappointed at how dim the picture was, but then again I didn't buy it for 3d.
Nigel Beale Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 The rec709 or Cim1 modes will be too dark for 3D, try Normal or Dynamic. Oh another advantage for gaming with 7000 or 8000 is good bulb life for these models.
