Luckiestmanalive Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Vintage smintage – the upgraded amp will be worth more standard one & if it sounds better do it +1 - I didn't hesitate to upgrade the binding posts on my old Plinius 3100 when the plastic mounting bracket perished. I was right pleased with the result!
Papa Hemi Posted November 20, 2014 Author Posted November 20, 2014 Show us a pic then - go on, in you own time - a pic, how does it look?
Reverend Johnny Heathen Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Alas, it will have to be on my own time. Tried the ol' reach around (down the back of the rack) but was very unclear. I promise a pic next time I de-rack her...
Zero1553552727 Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I have a Sansui AUX 701 which I absolutely love. It was from the last line of good Sansui's before the quality went downhill.
Reverend Johnny Heathen Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Hey Zero, these read up really nicely... Pics? Thoughts?
Reverend Johnny Heathen Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I elected to buy a slightly sturdier version Ha! Turns out my 'sturdier version' is the same thing they sell at Jaycar! Also sold under dozens of different names/listings/price points on eBay which I'm now scouring for something slightly nicer for the 7900. This having been said I've seen many others have used some pretty basic posts - the likes of which are sold by Jansens for $6 a pop - and sung their praises so I may yet just go that path...
ajst2duk Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I have an AU-517 refurbished by the famous Skippy in Sydney and an AU-4900 that I did myself, I also gave an AU-3900 to a friend of mine in Auckland. I grew up in the 70's with Dad's Sansui gear and I thought it was awesome. The AU-517 is an awesome beast
Reverend Johnny Heathen Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Finally got to changing out the binding posts on the AU-7700 today. Was a tight squeeze - working within the constraints of the original casework as I wanted everything to be reversible (for the purists) should the need ever arise. After much ummm-ing and ahhh-ing, I chose to forego the stupidly expensive posts and bought these jobbies from a respected seller on e-bay. These posts are identical to others sold under all sorts of brand names and generically, at all different price points all over the net. Assuming there is a modicum of purity to the metal, the bananas are a snug fit and my soldering is up to snuff - I don't see how they'll fall short but as always, time will tell... Edit: after 5 attempts at posting this and a pic... I give up. Grrrr.
Owen Y Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Those big expensive posts are not necessarily better. And, good idea to not destroy a vintage item by unnecessary surgery on casework. Just visualise the music signal which travels at/near the surface of conductors & those big connectors often have excessively long & odd-shaped surface profiles for the signal to negotiate.
