Pigboat Posted March 27, 2019 Posted March 27, 2019 Drawn to Vintage "sleepers" such as this Amber 50b. Opening a unit such as this for the First time, and seeing the Art of the layout, the hands on build, the Smell. I just get an "Electronic Woody". Works fine, even though handling caused some damage (chipped side panel, L Neg post broken) Have old post, and can work with wood. BIG scare is Caps. 1 in particular. So, need to recap, and that is the reason I'm here. Need a schematic, and/or list of caps from someone who's been this route. This is a Aussie model, with phono input upgrades. SN 05911233 Any info on this Model 50b, or Amber Model 7 Tuner(US) (on the way), would be very much appreciated. Thanks Pigboat SSBN659G(69-75) STS2SS
Addicted to music Posted March 27, 2019 Posted March 27, 2019 (edited) You don’t need a diagram to recap those electrolytic. The values and polarity are printed on them. Take clearer photos like you have done for reference so you don’t get the polarity wrong, and also for us to identify the label on the rest. Those caps that are suspected are 470uf/50V. Pigboat Posted March 27, 2019 Author Posted March 27, 2019 Thanks for the info. Actually need schematic, not block diagram, as I will be putting a scope to it,before and after, and would like a "little" more electronic circuit detail, for tweaking. I like to make DIY MOD's trying to create the Silk Purse. This looks like a good subject. My joy is a Mod Adcom GFP-565, Just for the Phono Stage. Thanks again

Mauro Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 I used to have one of these. Had a noisy volume pot from day one and whenever switched on would hear a (turn on) thump from the woofers. Thin sound that I was never able to get accustomed to. Glad I passed it on.
mrbugeyes Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 Greetings. I have the same model and the start up thump was cured by having a relay installed by an electronics friend. I dust it off and give it a spin now and then. Big jumbo US caps. Cheers.
mrbugeyes Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 Greetings. You can get info on this amp on the net which will tell you that it originates from the USA witch is probably why it has those big blue US caps. Google "Amber 50B amplifier " and also click on images. Cheers.
