The umpire was completely correct on this call.....and it's about time Novak's incessant and annoying pre serve ball bouncing 'routine' was nipped in the bud. It's just another tactic he pulls when the chips are down. Fans love great players who have integrity in everything they do on the court. Novak unfortunately doesn't fit this bill. His talent is unquestionable.....his attitude to fairness is. 3

Ideally it should be no more than 5 seconds between points - we'll get there in due course and as quickly as possible. These "tennis player's" serves are eating up the already endangered advertising time/space. Tennis associations really should do something about this wastage of time. We may yet find a way to do away with the players altogether - for a truly perfectly appointed tennis match, broadcastable at an absolute profit and everyone's enjoyment. Flowing smoothly with 0 seconds between points while the robots trash it out. Umpire can call the shots/points in retrospect during the 5 minute add break scheduled to run after every other point. (this will be an ideal opportunity to oil the robot's joints and bearings/reset any software issues, sweep up any injured spectators while indicating if they did or did not have hospital cover and which plan would have suited them best). 2

However, there's more to tennis greatness than just stats and IMO Roger is still the better player.....not at this point in time of course but over history. Indeed it's all a matter of opinion, but mine won't be changing. I often think "if players could play themselves, what would be the greatest tennis match of all time?" I can't go past Roger v Roger. The shot making would be breathtaking and the construction of points and eventual winners would be mind boggling.....and there would be net play and volleying.....how refreshing!! 2

I did see some great ATP tennis on ESPN some 10 days ago from Dubai. Semis: Monfils v Djokovic - Gael really should have won, however was not able to convert his chances in the 2nd set. Now following yesterday's and today's announcements there doesn't seem to be any doubt. Was really looking forward to it. Even got the ESPN subscription on my FetchTV for the month mostly because of the Indian Wells ATP. Would've been a cracker. Oh well - in the bigger scheme of things, it's merely a sporting event after all...

A European football championship (a nations tournament) has been rescheduled by EUFA from 2020 to 2021. We may yet see a few other tennis tournaments not happen at all this year - similar to Indian Wells. I think it's a good move for Rolland Garros to claim Sep 2020, but I think they know it's no more than a hope at this stage. I don't hold much hope for Tokyo Olympics at this stage.
