You beauty!!   Go Thiem!!

I thought he choked big time and Rafa was in,  but he came back to win.

The best match of the Open so far.

Thiem was amazing with his fearless ground strokes.

Brilliant match. Thiem looked gone when he couldn't serve for the match. Good on him for hanging in there and winning.

Thiem did tighten up several times, but did eventually manage to overcome the nerves for a win. Thiem played some of the best tennis I've seen from him and it does underline just how good you have to play to beat Rafa. I think Roger will need one of those miracles he was talking about the other night, if he is going to get over Novak in their semi tonight, but I'm hoping he finds one...............come on Roger! If Thiem can produce last night's form in his semi against Zverev, he'll be in the final.............come on Thiem!

Cheers,

Just watching the Ash Barty semi and the British commentator (sorry can’t think of her name) was telling Helena Dokic in commentary  that tennis dads can get excited watching their daughters play!?

Oh Dear.  Barty just had a choke party.

2 set points in the tie break and up 5-3 in the 2nd set.

Well folks, the Barty party is over, but congratulations to Ash for making her first Australian Open semi final. I thought she was dominant for most of both sets, but when she had points to win both sets, a combination of nerves and playing too safe cost her each set and the match.

We will have to wait another year to see an Australian win this title and that will be 43 years.............long time between drinks,

Well, the 2020 AO just got very boring. Barty is out.?

My question is: Why did she have to play in the heat of the afternoon and not on prime time tonight? The organisers need to be shot for thinking Djokovich v Zverev  would rate higher or be a more popular ticket than our own number one ranked women and Australia's sweetheart fighting for a finals berth. WTF were they thinking?!

Also to come up with the excuse that they don't want to give an advantage to one semi winner over the other through getting more rest.....why are the men playing a night apart then??

A almost mysoginistic attitude to womens tennis.....it completely defies logic.?

I was really hoping Ash could win this tournament and I’m a little disappointed she lost her match today, but I think there is still a lot of interest in this tournament, especially from the men’s side.

The women are great to watch, especially when the match is competitive, but comparing the standard of play to last night’s Thiem v Nadal match for instance, the women’s matches today look like slow motion.

I’m really looking forward to Roger v. Novak tonight and I’m not sure Djokovic v Zverev would draw more interest, but Novak will need to win tonight and Zverev will need to beat Thiem tomorrow for that to happen.

Go Roger!!?

Cheers Keith

Steve.   The ladies always play their semi finals during the heat of the day.

It would have been completely unfair to the second semi final to ask them to play during the day, while Ash plays at night.

That would mean 2.5 days rest vs 1 day rest.

Like it or not, the quality of the mens tennis is light years ahead of the ladies.

Plenty of rumours going around that Roger is going to pull out before tonights match against Novak.

  Hmmm, I wonder.

Heard that earlier in the telecast, but they did say that Roger was confirmed to play.......fingers crossed.

Nadal vs Thiem was sensational. I'd love to see Federer get to 21 Slams but he's looking the most vulnerable of the remaining men. Too many five-setters and rolls of the dice. If he wins tonight it may well be that the heat is a factor.

Roger has never pulled out of a match mid match, but has pulled put multiple times before a match.

If he is not 100%, not sure what the point is. He will get flogged by Novak.

Or is it a smoke screen? ?

Halep is out!!

The last 12 majors since 2017 there have been 11 different ladies champions.  Osaka won 2.

If Kenin wins, that will be 12 different out of 13 majors.

That is the big difference vs the mens -  nobody is dominant in the ladies.     Everyone gets a prize ?

The Thiem v Zverev semi did not come up to the standard of the Thiem v Nadal match, but that match was arguably the best in this tournament. I'm glad Thiem came through. but he will need to lift his game considerably if he is going to have any chance of beating Djokovic.

I've gotta be honest, my interest in the women's event has waned a lot since Barty lost in the semi, but I'll have a look today and hope it is a competitive match.

Agree.  interesting match last night.  You could see Thiem was mentally/physically struggling to keep it together all the time, but he managed to step up when it mattered.  Zverev seem to be too passive far too often and imo that is what lost him the match - when he was attacking he was very good.

Joker should win, but I really hope Thiem can recover mentally and beat him in 4 playing that lovely attacking play he has been doing.

The ladies will be interesting - I saw Kenin play in the first round and her groundstrokes are very good and will not break down - but she does not have the killer shots like Murga does.  If Murga brings he A game, she will win.  If she is slightly down like Ash was Kenin all the way.

Anyway, I will enjoy the match tonight regardless - Kenin wears the best tennis skirt in the game and Murga has lovely legs  - and both play great tennis ?
