cheekyboy Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Yeah, agree Shane @metal beat, he might be a remarkable tennis player, but that doesn't entitle him to do what he wants and he does have responsibility with his position in the game and being the current world no 1. Djokovic loses me as far as giving him any credibility outside his tennis ability anyway, with his stance as an anti-vaxxer and his approach to COVID 19 precautions/restrictions was simply irresponsible too. Cheers, Keith 1

Yes I did, so being a great tennis player and being no 1 in the world doesn't necessarily mean you have half a brain! Cheers, Keith
stevoz Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 (edited) The Joker is a joke.....and this is karma at it's best. What a moron this guy is. I've tried to like him through the years but just can't (being a Fed fan). This (and all his anti-vax and Covid stupidity) absolutely seals it..... Edited September 7, 2020 by stevoz 1
Mutatis Mutandis Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Joker as Karma Comedian? Well, perhaps, if it all wasn't so grim and stupid....

Doesn't matter how hard he hit her. He broke the rules: "In accordance with the Grand Slam rule book, following his actions of intentionally hitting a ball dangerously or recklessly within the court or hitting a ball with negligent disregard of the consequences, the US Open tournament referee defaulted Novak Djokovic from the 2020 US Open. Because he was defaulted, Djokovic will lose all ranking points earned at the US Open and will be fined the prize money won at the tournament in addition to any or all fines levied with respect to the offending incident." 2

McEnroe only swore at the ref, but it was 3rd warning - default. rules are rules and Novak is well aware of them since he has been close to defaulting a few times in the past and been quizzed about it by the tennis press. Serena was defaulted in 2009 US Open - the Japanese line judge was on the receiving end in Williams' famous "I swear to God I'll f****** take the ball and shove it down your f****** throat," attack after making a call. Then she threatened to kill her. 2
Tony ray Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 I thought he had hit one of those kids that collect the balls not a adult. She should of seen it coming

I’ve watched the vision several times and Djokovic was heading to his seat to change ends and I think she (the line judge) wasn’t even looking at him. Djokovic is a goose and unfortunately, it’s pretty obvious he’s not the only one! Cheers, Keith Edited September 8, 2020 by cheekyboy 3

stevoz Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 (edited) The Battle of the Two Mums. I watched (loosely) the first set between Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka this morning which Williams duly won 6-1 and then did something else, expecting the match to be a routine win for Serena. Imagine my surprise when I checked the scores later! Great comeback from Azarenka who, at times, has ice in her veins......steady as a rock. Will be interesting to see how she goes against Osaka......the form player at the moment. I have to add that her opponent today, Reynolds, looks to be a future champ. Impressive hitter! Great stuff I caught bits of the Osaka match and flicked it on later to see Williams up I think 4 love in the the first and I turned it off............if I had thought Azarenka was going to end up winning, I would have definitely left it on. I think that would have been Victoria’s first win over Williams in 11 starts too.........well done! Cheers, Keith 1
metal beat Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Two awesome finals coming up. Osaka vs Azarenka should be a ripper as both are in really good form. Hope it goes to 3 sets. Mens final is good as well. Thiem vs Zverev will be a ripper as well. They played a tight 4 set semi final at the AUS open in Jan - last 2 set tie breakers with Thiem winning. 1

Well, brilliant play at times during the final, but a lacklustre match overall and a definite lack of edginess and tension that makes for a great final. Both men are prone to doing a heartlage and neither have the mettle of a Federer, Nadal, Djokovic or Murray and for me, probably explains why at 23 and 27 this was going to be their first major win. Well done to Thiem for the win and he played a brilliant game to hold serve for 5 all in the 5th. Both players showed the most grit of the entire match in the last 4 games with the exception of Zverev growing a small brick on his elbow to drop his bowl at 5 all and then Thiem’s condition lets him down to the extent that he was really lucky to hang on and win the breaker Congratulations to Thiem and the game now has a brand new, first time Grand Slam tournament winner. metal beat Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 (edited) Gotta feel for these 2 guys. Zero atmosphere in an empty stadium. It was almost like who chokes less, and that was Thiem. Thiem went for the bigger risks when it mattered. Zverev seemed to go into his shell and play conservative. Best of 5 sets really is a test of fitness and most importantly, the mental toughness of the competitors. Congrats to Thiem for becoming the US Open champion and the first in over 70 years to come back from 2 sets to love down and win it. Hopefully this will drive these 2 guys onto even better things. zippi Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 what is this??? Raffa comprehensively dismantled by Diego Schwartzman in Rome ATP Masters --- on CLAY!!! Are generations finaly about to churn more decisively this oddball year? I wonder what Roland Garros has in store this year....exciting times

The only way he does not win the French is if he does a Joker and tubes a linesperson.

zippi Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 yeah tend to agree re the 5 sets factor @metal beat. but it was such a controlled and patient demolition - emphatic. And a first ever for Schwartzman over Nadal. Either way - will be bags of fun and interesting. 1

Agree, Shane, it’s one thing to win two sets against Rafa, but to win three on clay against Rafa is a whole other thing. I watched the match and Schwartzman did play very well, but he had a very tough match against Shapavolov in the semi and I reckon he’ll struggle to beat Djokovic in the final. At the start of the 1st it seemed like another dismantling similar to Rafa match up may be on the cards, however Djokovic just kept switching into higher and higher gears as the match went along. 1
