I currently use a sony ta5650 VFET amp but I need a more compact solution. Any suggestions of something with a similar sound ? I only need one set of speaker outputs not 2 like the sony.

Also what would be a good price to try to sell my sony for? It's cosmetically good and functionally excellent but due to its size it doesn't suit my new place

Richard MacDonald who goes by the name @tagstrip has a small compact amplifier that in conversation with him said it had outdone his previous Quasimodo amps.  I can't quite remember the name of the new small sized amp.

A great guy who loves a chat about anything amplifier.

Definitely agree with this. I used to own a Quasi and regret selling it to this day. It compares very favourably indeed to the likes of the Rega and Cyrus and IMO is better than both. A very high quality design and just a great musical sound. IIRC there is a new 80 WPC version for around $1200 and for that money you wouldn't find a better amp. I may end up buying one myself if they have a phono stage.

What price do you reckon I should ask for my Amp?

Maybe $350-400 in the current buyers market, but if you find a V Fet fan they may pay more. Personally, I would keep it and try to work on a solution.

They really aren't big and/or heavy and you would find it difficult to equal or better its sound . The Quasi is the only thing I would replace this with in a half case size amplifier and they don't have a phono stage IIRC and it is only the Mini model that is half size so you would be restricted to low power.

there seems to be a bit of variability in these amps.

as per vintage knob, and also some info here on SNA, the bias diodes and resistors originally on board were quite poor - vintage knob states these should by default be swapped out asap in all units as it could lead to major failures etc... hence depending on the state of all those parameters - I guess the prices could vary wildly

The compact version of the Quasimodo is the Darlimodo and is still 40w. This may still be available although it goes back a little bit. But you could always drop them an in-forum email.

the Darlimodo is still available, dealt with Richard earlier this year, bought a second hand Quasimodo, sent it to Richard to tweak, amazing little amp, only has one input , decided that i would be happy to swap inputs rather than change the amp, will sell the Exposure when we down size
