Lochawe Posted August 17, 2019 Posted August 17, 2019 Item: NVA AP35 integrated amplifier Nene Valley Audio – classic UK minimalist amp. Location: PERTH Price: $480 (original retail = $1,799 AUD) Item Condition: GOOD. Reason for selling: NO LONGER REQUIRED This was my first sampling of minimalist audiophile gear back in the early 1990s. It is the only piece of equipment that I have kept over those 25 years. Whilst everything else in my system steadily evolved through 10-12 generations of change I hung on to this beautiful amp and have used it in different systems over the last 15 years. I have kept this all this time because it always sounded so good (a rare blend of transparency and musicality) that I could never bring myself to let go. It has been a number of years now since it has been used (other than when my main system was out of action being upgraded ) so the time has come to let this one go. Payment Method: PAYPAL, Local Pickup - Cash. Extra Info: Nene Valley Audio (NVA) is a small UK manufacturer known for their amplifier’s reliability and purity of sound. Distinctively encased in enclosures usually glued together from non-ferrous materials, NVA amplifiers are exemplars of no-frills minimalist design where, unless something contributed to better sound it was not included in the final design. The NVA AP35 is a full sized stereo integrated amplifier with 3 RCA inputs and DIN tape connections. It is housed in an all aluminium enclosure consisting of black anodised plates adhered to two 20mm thick solid blocks of aluminium that form the amplifier’s two side walls. It has a passive preamp stage and ultra minimalist power amp output stages designed by renowned pioneering British audio designer Richard Dunn. It was upgraded by local NVA dealer Audio Synergy and about five years ago had its binding posts upgraded to Cardas CCBP unplated pure copper binding posts. Further technical information and a description of the amplifier’s design by Richard Dunn himself can be seen here for the subsequent model to this one – the AP30: http://www.nene-valley-audio.com/frames/nva/ap30.html In this there is clear advice from the amplifier’s designer about the need to use low capacitance speaker cables: “ In order to ensure no audible effects, there is no protection circuitry or filtering on the output of this amplifier, so some care needs to be taken in its usage, such as never short-circuiting the output. In addition, always choose low-capacitance speaker cable. Suitable cost-effective speaker cables include solid-core or low capacitance stranded types…. Avoid bi- or tri-wiring or high capacitance or Litz type loudspeaker cables -- these could damage the amp because they create a virtual short-circuit at very high frequencies.” Pictures: ATTACHED 1

Nearely bought one. Toss up between that an an Arcam amp. The Arcam won. Ah, the nostalgia. 1
altecman Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 (edited) Does it have a phono stage and MIT capacitors. What version is this model as it doesn't have a rear heatsink. Edited August 18, 2019 by altecman
Lochawe Posted August 18, 2019 Author Posted August 18, 2019 No it does not have a phono stage. I’m not sure what you mean by what version is it? Model is AP35. I do not recall there being different versions of the AP35?

I do not recall there being different versions of the AP35? When you said it has 20mm aluminium sides, I think it's mdf like this one. See how it has a rear heatsink, that's why I asked what version it was Edited August 19, 2019 by altecman
Lochawe Posted August 19, 2019 Author Posted August 19, 2019 OK understood and correct – as stated, this AP35 does not have MDF side panels they are solid aluminium alloy.
