Pradeep Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 Hi Mates Greetings.. Planning to buy Tannoy Turnberry GR Speakers for my Accuphase E470. Anybody Experienced in this combo? If so.. Please share your thoughts. Harbeth is mostly pairing but I love the style of Tannoy’s even if that’s secondary. Sound quality, Clarity .. Tone.. Details all are important to me regrds PG
wen Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 a quick read of a review on Hifi Pig magazine on the net suggests the speakers a " amp fussy", so i would say an audition would be essential to form your own opinion 1
blakey72 Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 I'm interested to hear people's opinions on these too as I've had thoughts of pairing these with a Weston tube amp. Class A Audio in Melbourne sell them though I haven't been in to audition yet. Harbeth is another brand I have been looking closely at. 1
wen Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 i'm sure the Weston amp would do the Tannoys justice 1 1
Redterratoo Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 i'm sure the Weston amp would do the Tannoys justiceWhen I first met Earle years ago to discuss an amp build he was doing for me he had one of his creations hooked up to some vintage Tannoys ( could’ve been Cheviots or Arden’s) in his loft listening room. The sound was sh....t hot! As far as the Accuphase goes.....Kev at Class A likes to audition the Tannoys with ‘Phase’ gear. I think Tannoys are wonderful speakers can’t go wrong there. 1
HUMBUG89 Posted November 1, 2019 Posted November 1, 2019 Using Tannoy Stirlings and Leben Cs600 valve amp, works well, so I would say any valve amp even low powered should be okay, they are around 93db. As far as the Accuphase amps go, my understanding is they also match well with Tannoys. Their are quite a few both valve and SS amps which work well with these speakers . As for 'Phase' gear, I would take no notice of what Class A audio says, regradless of their selling Tannoy speakers check the actual Tannoy website first and some research via the web, then make up your mind. Then it's up to you. 1
harfdef Posted November 1, 2019 Posted November 1, 2019 This "I would take no notice of what Class A audio says "pretty harsh imothey make a living selling Accuphase and to aid this have chosen Tannoy as a synergistic match and vise versa. You will find very few speaker manufacturer willing to limit their sales to owners of certain amplifier ( Harbeth for instance totally refute that any particular brand amp has any synergy with their product.)The dealers have and have had a wide range of combinations to experiment with and are not just saying something works but demonstrating it.ps. have no affiliation with Class A and never dealt with thempps. believe the OP is in the far East and not easily able to audition 3 1
John Sawley Posted November 2, 2019 Posted November 2, 2019 My suggestion is to try your accuphase on the Tannoys with your source or similar gear before you buy them. I have Ardens and many other speakers but generally found valves more to my taste for them. I have found for my taste there is a synergy between amplifiers and speakers and almost everything else systemwise in hi fi. Matching a system for me is the difficult part which takes time even with careful selection of components but it's a lot of fun. 1
Gerard K Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 Gday mate. Did you end up going ahead with the purchase? I have a pair of the Tannoy Turnberry GRs and an Accuphase e408. It’s a nice combination, especially with vinyl which I play on a Pro-Jec 6. Cheers, Gerard
HUMBUG89 Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 @harfdef yes my comments were meant to be harsh, PM me if you’ d to know why, no comments or story here by me.
