Thinking of selling my ME850, fully working, slight oxidisation from being near the ocean but amazing sound :)

How much are they going for these days?

I just sold my mint, fully refurbed aluminium case newer model for $2,800.
I sold a fully service excellent condition steel chassis for $2000.
Being that this is an older steel case in the condition it’s in it would be less than $1500.

A few things that may help... do you have the crate? Has it been serviced? If so who did the service?

They are a heavy unit,  have a crate made up is no big deal,  if you haven’t had it service then send it Rage Audio in Sydney. Trevor has the passion in getting this up to new.

Why? He wants to sell it.

Sell as is and let the new owner "refresh" it if they feel the need.

Trevor would probably buy it from you at a fair price, fix it up and sell it on. Maybe a simple option for a quick no hassle sale.

I think last recommendation was expect $1,000 or so.
There is also the foam that holds the fan to replace if not done already.
Also the grills at the front need refoam.

Unfortunately I wouldn’t be going near this one.....

Check with Trevor as to the prices both before and after re-furb. That'll tell you whether it's worth doing before you advertise it. Many people hide the amp away so appearance issues may not be important to them, but condition internally is important.

Having owned a few, and assuming that you no longer want or need it, my advice is to sell as is and leave it to the next owner to pay for service and improvements.

An old ME amp will need to have quite a few rail caps replaced, probably a bunch of resistors too plus some component upgrades to restore it to as-new or better.

And (unfortunately) there are very few people in the country who are genuinely capable of servicing ME amps because an intimate understanding of the design and operation is essential. There are parallels with European sports cars of the 60's and 70's, and with the wrong service tech your ME will likely develop a magic smoke emission control problem.
