Just wondering if anyone has recommendations for someone to service my machine.   Just a lowly Gaggia Classic which hasn't been serviced in the 5yrs I've had it,  and also needs a new portafilter handle....one too many knocks and it exploded this morning!.

NE melbourne preferably...ringwood-ish area.

Got a great story to tell about being the sole Lavazza service agent for there espresso Point machines in the late 90's next we meet....its a classic!

Besides that two mates & I formed our own coffee company (Fetish Coffee) which we ran on the side for about 5-6 years during the early 2000's for which again was responsible for service and maintenance of all our machines. We even had our own nude Fetish Coffee body painted girly calendars ?

Haha I would love too but unfortunately decent roasters not locked into minimal Kg/week contracts are thin on the ground unfortunately. Had a blast do it though and met some great people along the way so no regrets.

Even had my own Fetish Coffee R/C racing team.

Only a couple of suburbs over!    I'll shoot you a PM at some stage,  probably in the new year once the xmas madness subsides.

Your cars,  or were you just the sponsor?

if you were racing circa 2005 our paths may have crossed.

Yep my cars as I was heavily into R/C during that time. Was racing at MORRC (Melbourne Off Road Radio Controlled club) around that time starting with 1/5 scale (26cc two stroke) and moving down to 1/8 nitro after the ban of 1/5 due to the hazards they presented to the marshalls along with them destroying the track for the 1/8 boys. Fun (and expensive) times they were!

Considering how much I spent on 1:10 elec I hate to think what the big boys would have set you back.

Was good fun though,  sunday morning hangovers and all.

@coffeemachinist is our resident service man - but not sure he's around here much lately.

I'll second this, great service from Rick and he can also mod your machine to improve it's consistency too.

Well I’m pretty happy with myself at the moment.     Since starting this thread I’ve tacked a few issues with the gaggia, including:  replaced broken handle ($20),  clear out solenoid valve to fix low flow problem (free),  replace leaking steam valve ($70).

The machine has been fine for months and getting heavy use due to mrs and I both working from home,  but earlier this week I had another low flow problem.

After a few days of head scratching and swearing I concluded it was the pump not building pressure.  Flow was ok without load, but a dribble when trying to pull a shot.

Before spending $50 on a new pump I had a closer look, even though it didn’t seem to be a serviceable part.     I dismantled what i could and found tiny piece of foreign plastic inside so removed it, put it all back together and the machine is running like new again.

Woo hoo!  Time for a coffee.

This bloody machine is cursed!     (or maybe I just shouldn't be DIY servicing...haha)

I went to make a second coffee on sat morning only to find the machine had no power and a scalding hot casing.     Turns out the steam thermostat was buggered and because I'd left the steam switch on after my earlier coffee the elements stayed on until the thermal fuse blew.         The thermostat was cracked so I  guess I knocked it in all my rooting around  recently  but I don't recall doing so.

New fuse fitted  and back to pulling shots,   but I've disabled steam until a new thermostat  arrives .     I ordered a full service kit for $48 from the UK ( 2 thermostats,  shower screen, all O-rings & seals,   descaler)  which is great considering the single  thermostat was ~$40 locally.

I'm not sure he is still in business either.... although the website is still up. I left a SMS, an email and even a PM here early last week and haven't had a reply to any of them. Perhaps he is on holidays :ninja:

If you decide to let a professional service the unit or you want upgrade... On Friday I left my machine with https://eastlinkespresso.com.au/ in Wantirna and I was very impressed with the knowledge and customer service of all there. I'll let you know what their actual servicing is like, my Expobar needs a new pump and my Macap grinder has a potentially bung motor.

Fantastic actually. I've since spoken to one of the school dads and he uses them too and been happy. They were getting a naked portafilter in for me which I'll actually try and pick up today, so thanks for the reminder, they called me while I was away over easter.

Thank you for that link @blybo...they are only a 10 minute drive from my place...very handy!

Took my Delonghi in for a service quote...it was l-e-d-ing 'General Alarm'...seems like the heater element has carked it...(replace that heater and it will be good for another 10 years! :) )...They will ring me back within the week for my preferred outcome...

Very friendly customer service...look professional...place is jam packed with coffee machinas...their own roasted coffee blends...and coffee gadgets...

Was raining heavy when I delivered my Delonghi for service quote....but they made me feel very welcome...no sales pressure at all...fixed me up a beautiful coffee, slight chocolate flavour with a creama that was smooth as whipped cream(itsa not me itsa the machina! :) ) while I waited for the rain to ease......talked Euro Cup/World Cup football...talked so much I was hanging out for another coffee!...did not want to leave... :)
