Zone3799 Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 I'm after suggestions for the above criterea on an Open Back Headphone . Around $500au .. Have a Fiio A3 amp for amping .. Thanks in advance for all responses ....
Farpun Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 HD600 and HD650 both have great mids and highs but have a bass roll off from about 40hz down. I think to get good mids and highs with thumping bass you would have to go up much higher in the price bracket to something like a ZMF. 1
Zone3799 Posted December 12, 2019 Author Posted December 12, 2019 You may be right Farpun , the Sennys in that range are probably not quite right , will check out your recomendation , cheers
Farpun Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 It's basically what I'm looking for too, if anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them. I'm eyeing off ZMF Atticus or Aeolus 1

Yeah definitely is, I'm hoping someone else will make a suggestion but alot of headphones that have good punchy bass in the $500 range tend to be v shaped and have recessed mids and sibilant highs.
Zone3799 Posted December 12, 2019 Author Posted December 12, 2019 I was just thinking that if a recording was made to be big on drums then that should show in just about any headphone ... some recordings ie: Eliminator by Zz Top was apparantly mixed so it would sound good through a car radio ... Maybe just maybe the Sennys will be ok after all ? Wish I could try some but I'm in Country Vic and don't know anyone who has them ! Decisions Decisions hey ..
Bengineer Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Aeon 1 for $550-650 and EQ the bass a touch (it's not lacking, it's there right down low, but if you need it to thump more, give it a slight nudge). Untouchable at that price, IMO.
Zone3799 Posted December 12, 2019 Author Posted December 12, 2019 Please have a listen to the link , possibly my all time favourite drum sound , big n fat on the whole album , this track highlighting drums with the space .... will look into the aeon's as well , anyway enjoy ... hope the mods are ok with the link ?
Zone3799 Posted December 12, 2019 Author Posted December 12, 2019 Only one Aeon used on ebay.au at $600 with a day or so left , all other used are o/s with much higher price tag ... read a few reviews some flattering and some unflaterring !!??
Bengineer Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Yeah, but you're talking reviews of it at $1100 AUD. Not at $600 AUD. Used DT1990. Sony Z7M2 (new). Audeze LCD1 (recently out). Fostex / Massdrop TH610 / TX00. Argon MK2 / 3. 1

Zone3799 Posted December 12, 2019 Author Posted December 12, 2019 An unflattering review is just that whatever the price is , would rather risk 200-300 on something proven than spend 600 on something I can't get a listen to first hey ... no disrespect intended .
kukynas Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Hifiman Sundara or cheaper alternative HD599

Yeah, know what you mean. What can you listen to? You in Melb or Sundry? The Aeon 1 smokes the HD650. I have had them both for extended periods. Both have nice tones, fairly nuetral, but the bass depth and the extra detail/clarity of the Aeon nails the Senny. But again, we comparing $600-650 (were $1100) with $250 HD6xx. The HD59X or whatever they call it is an option too. Same ****, good for the price. $200 or so.
Zone3799 Posted December 12, 2019 Author Posted December 12, 2019 I'm in Euroa Vic country , yep looked at the Senn 598 , prob the best option atm is senn hd650 or hd600s , not too shabby . Do you know in Melb city where you can trial diff cans ?

I never felt any pressure to buy anything
Bengineer Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 (edited) Yeah, Addicted to Audio is your best bet. Definately try some though. Woulnd't call the 598/650 thumping bass. Like its fine for the price, but it doesn't thump. Try the Sony Z7m2 & Fostex TH610 if you can there. Edited December 13, 2019 by Bengineer 1
Zone3799 Posted December 13, 2019 Author Posted December 13, 2019 Okay , had a good think and checked reviews on all replies and relating to budget including new Audeze lcd-1 and the Sonys last mentioned .. I guess I'm lucky to have just purchased Final Audio Heaven Vi earphones , the mids especially are flawless , the highs very good too . The Bass is there and balanced and doesn't bleed into the low mids , awesome ! So with all this in mind I'm thinking not a good idea to relinquish nice highs for xtra thump ! If you go back to the youtube track well that track sounds very nice with the Finals so the forward drum sound should sound pretty good on any half decent headphone .. So all in all clarity overides any xtra bass , if it's not on the original recording I shouldn't be trying to fake something that's not there in the first place ! Rant over and appreciatte everyones replies , Zone3799

But it's still a good roll off. Thumping bass needs the subbass. Aeon 1, for example since I've mentioned it, is flat right down. No roll off. An Sony Z7M2 has the mid bass jump then right down to 10. HD"insert number here" rolls off. Edited December 13, 2019 by Bengineer
kukynas Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 Sure but out of the budget, OP might be willing to go second hand but that’s something I wouldn’t risk with cans
Zone3799 Posted December 14, 2019 Author Posted December 14, 2019 Well I've found something that is right but for whatevet reason I'm not getting a response .. so I've offered a decent amount more let's see what happens ... stay tuned ...
Batty Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 I find Planar phones to give great bass and even tonality 1
