I stumbled upon a band call The Vampires over on Tidal when listening to its curated New Release World Music playlist.  [Just quietly, this is one of the things Qobuz needs to catch up on.]   Check Out "Pacifica" in particular "West Mass".  The band reminds me in some way or our own The Catholics; moody, strident, funky, cool, eclectic and with great playing at all times.  Just the thing to partner a glass of wine on a rainy afternoon in Melbourne.

< Original Cultures is proud to present the second album from Oké, a trio from Bologna composed of veteran producer Andrea "Katzuma" Visani, William Simone, and Andrea Calì. Following a debut release in 2016 via Queen Spectra, they return with a double album inspired by library music, cosmic jazz, and afro-house.

Expansive and inspired, Deserto takes listeners on a journey into imaginary landscapes. Katzuma's production reflects this with a stripped back approach and delicate interplay between the three members - Katzuma on the beats, Simone on percussion and FX, and Calì on keys. The album features 16 new songs from the trio alongside two covers: Tony Esposito's "Il Venditore Di Elastici," from the 1974 fusion album Rosso Napoletano, and Dizzie Gillespie's "A Night In Tunisia," a standard from the 1940s that is reimagined here with an infectious, undulating groove. The rest of the album also features guest turns from various musicians from the local jazz scene including Venus Rodriguez who lands haunting vocals to Ochosi Ayilodà, Nico Menci on keys, Pasquale Mirra on vibes, Davide Angelica on guitar, Salvatore Lauriola on bass, and Valeria Sturba on the electric violin. >

Hi All,

This week's album is the latest release from dZihan + Kamien called IV, it continues on from their previous albums of  a mix of downtempo and acid jazz music.

Road

Quite enjoying this new, to me, artist. A mate of mine heard about her via Leland Sklar's excellent You Tube channel and suggested I give her a listen.

Almost but not quite smooth jazz/muzak it's easy to listen to, but has enough heart and fire to remain interesting. I first listened to it on Thursday night via Tidal (or was it Qobuz?) and having done so I ordered it straight away from Amazon, who delivered it the very next day.

I am never sure which side of which album to play but they are all great. It is now getting much harder to find so I am glad I bought it when I did.

Dead Weather, The - Horehound - Vinyl 2LP - 2009 - US - Original | HHV

Thanks for posting this @rantan, I had never heard of this lot before but the album cover intrigued me so I listened them up on Qobuz/Tidal. Wowsers!! Tracked down a copy via Amazon UK, should be dropping through the letterbox of a friend of mine's tomorrow. He'll post it on for me. I think it was under 7 GBP.

Hi All,

Seems the thread is slowing down so, this week my favourite album is Aussie band, The Bamboos, Hard Up,  an album of modern funk / soul.

I have to admit I am really bad at supporting my own thread - so promise to try to improve on this from now on 🙃

This is an album I play pretty much EVERY week on both CD and LP format (Vinyl being the better listening experience) BUT I just love this and it is an album that I will never be without as it is also sentimental now (makes me think of the special friends that recommended it to me).

It was in the mailbox when I got home from walking the dog, I haven't even listened to it yet but I just know it's going to be my album of the week.

Hi All,

Lisa Gerrard and Jules Maxwell, Burn. Very similar to her work with Klaus Schulze, airy and ethereal.

South Australian band, Shoalin Afronauts : Quest Under Capricorn

Is it purely coincidental that the band's initials are SA?

The new album from Styx is pretty good and represents the style that made them so famous back in the day.

Kansas also released an excellent album last year called "The Absence of Presence" and which has been on high rotation here lately.

Swapped a few tunes with Mr Proglodyte and this one arrived in his rescue package.

I had the cassette a 100 years ago but hadn't listened to it properly since it came out in 1982.

Been on high rotation lately.

Mammoth WVH - Mammoth WVH
I have given this quite a few spins now since release. Such a good debut from Wolfgang Van Halen. If you like rock, and haven’t heard this, I can recommend.

Hi All,

This week my favourite album is Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Angel Dream a RSD drop from last month, an excellent album, quiet background, and has good dynamics.
