I swapped amplifiers and replaced the Musical Fidelity with a McIntosh MA352 a few months back. The sound stage got even bigger and instrument separation improved too. I recently popped them onto Isoacoustic feet which made quite a profound improvement too. I honestly can't see me parting with these unless a giveaway deal comes along on something truly obscene like a pair of Sonus Faber Serafinos. The DC10s are making it very easy to discern the absolute quality of the recordings and sources in use. I have a decent pressing of Rolling Stones - Aftermath and you can pick the studio setup/differences between tracks that were laid down in the December '65 block versus those recorded in the March '66 block. This makes me very happy ! I thought they'd be a big jump up from the b&w and there sound quality and finish also reflects their original RRP , I'll have to come and have a listen when I'm up your way 1

Hi thanks, that would be really interesting to see and helpful for the build!

I had no idea they be this good. Lx4man did an incredible job fixing these up. One woofer was seized and voice coil melted. He replaced both the cones with the last NOS 12” monitor gold cones with rubber surrounds known to exist by Mainly Tannoy. He also recapped the crossover and realigned the tweeters etc…… they are as good or probably better than when my Dad bought them in 1967, the year I was born. Internally re wired with new MainlyTannoy 4pin plugs. The crossover adjustment knobs are in tact and cleaned. Custom engraved and paint filled Aluminium rear plate with ETI posts from Mallards Signs. The 120L ish cabinets Aranmar made are about 2x the size of the dilapidated originals, fully lined and braced and specifically designed to suit the drivers rebuilt measurements after 20-30hr continuous run in. They sound fantastic, I wasn’t expecting the bass to be so deep and the soundstage so open. I’m using a Blusound Node2i for now. My dads Technics TT doesn’t sound as good and there’s a hum in the L channel so a little more investigation required with Phono input. The Blusound on Aux1 however is clean, deep and wide…… gives my Zu Druids and Weston KT120 competition for sure. The fit and finish from Aranmar cannot be faulted……..I haven’t seen timberwork this good in a long time……. flawless. John also remade the wood box for my recently serviced Marantz 1060. It looks equally amazing and drives these Golds perfectly……. Amazing how good a 1974 amp and large diameter, efficient speakers can sound…….. goes to show that my parents partied as hard as we can with a lot more power at hand nowadays Beautiful! Love matching the casework on the amp to the speakers 2 1
marcusD Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 I just bought a pair of MG12s in Lancaster cabs last night on TradeMe (Kiwi E bay), would anyone have any plans for an Onken style cabinet for this driver?
Cecil B Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 Nice cabinets Naggots, you mentioned 120L ish........what are the approx cab dimensions out of interest? Cheers

Quinardo Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 Hi fellow Tannoy'philes! Was wondering if anyone heard the Tannoy Platinum B6 or F6 speakers - there's a lack of information on them globally it seems... They're not Dual Conc. but wondering if anyone's had experience with them? Cheers!

I might experiment with some of the horn loaded designs down the track I've finally started construction of the cabinets. The build is based on the largest cabinet recommended in the k3838 Manuel. I have 4 100mm port tubes per speaker, hoping to get something that looks like an m1000. Any suggestions from experts at this stage would be great, the manual is not overly detailed.
VanArn Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 I would suggest that having the T & S parameters measured would be the first step to take . Once these important figures have been established then a suitable cabinet can be designed.

VanArn Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 (edited) 13 hours ago, sleach said: Do you think they are likely to be significantly different from the published figures? The K3838 speakers would be nearly 40 years old. The suspension components fatigue with useage and unless they have been recently replaced the speaker will be unlikely to match the sparse published data for this model. Even so , the last time I looked at a vented enclosure for the K3838, it required over 400 litre of internal volume to obtain a response down to 25 Hz. The cabinet designs from Tannoy are compromised as commercial reality results in showing only smaller boxes. Edited May 4, 2022 by VanArn addition 2

Good job on those cabinets, they look like they are about the right size for those drivers. What electronics are you using to drive them? Are they setup in their final room/location? Are you happy with the sound? Cheers

Right now I'm using limetree bridge, RME DAC and Hypex NC400 monos. They are in my studio where I work all day so this is the final location. Soundwise, highs and mids are great, imaging is surprisingly good. Some work to do on bass control. I'm playing with port tuning and positioning. But I built the cabinets to Tannoy specs and I suspect they need more bracing and damping.
marcusD Posted July 1, 2022 Posted July 1, 2022 Finally my Tannoy project is complete and the speakers have been shipped back to me in New Zealand. Aranmar Acoustics did a great job and Brian Arnstein did a really nice job on the drivers (regaussed, rewired and fettled. I had the XOs built by Mainly Tannoy. Cabinets are 107 liters internal, Birch Ply construction and lead lined. Sound wonderful 10
Willmax Posted July 1, 2022 Posted July 1, 2022 Congratulations Marcus, they look very solidly built. They look to be of similar proportions as the Berkeley's cabinets. What super tweeters are you using up top and what model are the main drivers? Cheers
