Hi Everyone

I'm currently researching turntables to see what would be the best fit for my system I've retrieved from storage (pic attached). Just wondering if anyone had some suggestions? I would prefer to stick to the same vintage as the speakers and amp, at a reasonable cost.

From my investigation so far I'm leaning towards either a Thorens td 150/160, Systemdeck IIx, Denon dp 60L or
Rega P2 or 3.

What do you think is a better turntable and match for my system?

Thank you :)

I would suggest perhaps listing the individual components and their specs to assist fellow members with your enquiry.

Out of the list provided definitely the Thorens, but then again it depends on your budget and the price the other turntables.

Thanks for the comments.

I'm not sure of the specs on each item, I was hoping a discussion on the pros and cons of each.

My budget is around the $1k mark, give or take a couple of hundred.

I also like the technics Sl 1200 in addition to the others mentioned. Thanks :)

I had a TD150 AB that did the job for me up until the late 1970s. I did add a 'string and weight' anti-skate. The cartridges I used then are no longer available.

The TD150 is a good honest deck and with plinth and arm upgrades can be very good.  Unfortunately they command silly prices now.

Yes I agree, the asking a good dollar for them. A little more than I wanted to pay but I'm in no rush.

I do like the look of them. Definitely would suit the vintage and style of my system.

Strangely enough, since I started buying stuff with my own money in the 1960s, all prices are silly now.☹️

I remember when petrol was 13¢ an imperial gallon, and the brand new car that consumed it cost $2100.

One thing to consider with the Denon decks is that due to their age, some components can go kapput and apparently are next to impossible to source. I took a punt with my DP75, and have absolutely no regrets as it sounds pretty damn good in my modest setup, however it's something to allow for.  Getting it for a relative bargain didn't hurt either though.

I also have a Technics SL1200MK2 that I got cheap at a pawn shop. Once I got replacement parts and a service done, it probably only owes me $600, and paired up with a 2M Bronze/Black, it sounds very good indeed.

You're probably not going to go too far wrong with any of your vintage choices that you've mentioned. Probably comes down more to price, condition and the aesthetic of the table matching your gear.

from the aesthetics of the system why not consider a modern Hanpin DD...Pioneer PLX 1000....Audio Technica LP5 come to mind and they look kinda retro...
