I'm not sure there is a better value setup for the office where semi-portability and discreet listening are needed.

Almost like a tuned BMW M140i vs a M3 CS, for example. Just straight up power to weight ratios :P

When you’re in Sydney, we’re going for a drive my friend lol

Update on the focal clear pro and amp. I ended up getting the marantz hd dac1. So far the headphones sound much better, it hasn't blown me away personally. At the moment I'd be keeping it till I can audition other headphones once that option is available

I spent some time with the Focal Clear today (testing 7-8 different headphones), and the Clears are amazing. They do so much very well.

What made you go with the Marantz HD DAC1? I don't notice that model being discussed often on here. Is it part of a HiFi or Desktop setup?

I initially wanted the IFI MICRO IDSD BLACK LABEL. However it was sold out everywhere and not available. I did a bit of research on it and auditioned it in person for 30 mins. Also received a good deal on it and thought why not

I need to stop visiting SNA. I happened to come across this thread this morning and ended up ordering Focal Elegia from ATA. I am going broke.

Can definitely relate!

It’s literally the best $500 you can spend in this hobby.

Just like the Sennheiser HD6XX is the best $300 you can spend in this hobby.

Waiting to find out. Just had them ordered so hopefully tomorrow. :)

yep, delivery was quick getting mine.  They are pretty decent straight off but certainly more open after 20-30 hrs.

I found mine to really open up after around 50-60 hours. There was a good difference after 20-25 hrs, but opened up a lot more around 50 hrs.

For the money spent on this ($500 through the A2A sale), this is a no-brainier. Highly recommended! Am very happy with mine, which makes me wonder what an upgrade to the Clears will feel like!

I wonder what the best $800 and $1000 recommendations are?

The focal clears (on sale at $1200) are probably the best in it's price range. How much better did you find the Clears as compared to the Eligias? Did you find it worth double the money?

In one word, no.

I think the Elegia are quite amazing really.

Two different headphones though.

Neither worth close to their retail, but no headphones are.

Sorry let me rephrase.

Worth double the money in many ways at current b stock prices.

Not worth anywhere retail.

Elegia are good for anything under 1k

Clear are good for anything under 1.5k

So $499 and $1199 respectively is great.

Clear punches on with the $2k headphones out there.

Not actually that much competition to be had though in these brackets, really.

HD6XX off a Bottlehead Crack is still the best $1000 you can spend. Closely followed by Elegia off a Schiit stack or HipDAC or some other SS option. After that $1000 its all diminishing returns.

Got my Aus Post tracking number today so hopefully receive them tomorrow or Friday ?

When did you place the order? I placed mine this morning and nothing yet so far. I was hoping to get it by tomorrow. Doesn't seem like it.

I placed it on Monday.

Now the research starts to finish my home setup to drive the elegia’s - I won’t be rushing into anything though and will just be enjoying them with the Hip DAC and my CX60 for now.

I think most people get a bit carried away with the price of these DAC/Amps. If you've spent $400-800 on a DAC/AMP that reviews well, you're basically 95% of the way there. Pumping another $1000 into it won't gain much. These entry level combos and stacks are freakin' incredible now. Huge value for money. Grab a good all in one or combo/stack and look at different headphones as the upgrade path. IMO.

To elaborate that thought a bit. $500 on a combo or stack that everyone raves about, is actually damn close to as good as it gets. $500 on headphones, is just a $500 set of headphones. If you had $1000 to spend say, better or different signature headphones is a much much greater step forward. The Elegia is a bit of an outlier at $500, you have to spend a fair chunk more to get better, but you can certainly compliment them with something else.

Sound advice. I’ll spend more time finding more chuuuuunes to listen to and enjoy on my Elegias instead of looking what to buy next. I’m a sucker for researching and wanting new gadgets though haha.

Any particular tracks you guys are really digging listening to on the Elegias?

I don't have the Elegia, sold mine. But any well recorded stuff. Not sure what genres you into.
