elisiX_ Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Well yeah, your head gets used to them. I notice the Elegia are gone, but Clears still at $1199. They really want me to but some..
gwurb Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Great post @elisix_. What is your opinion of Hip DAC after that listening session? I am looking for a cheaper amp to drive Elegia and am wondering between Hip DAC and Magni 3 Heresy. I have other DACs so it's really an amp that I am after to match Elegia. Maybe I should skip both? I am curious if those 2 are enough for Elegia. It's tricky to pick for myself as there are no auditions. I am in the process of making a DIY amp but wanted something in the meantime to fill the gap as there are some delays with the DIY.
elisiX_ Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 HipDAC in both my personal experience and in the review I posted earlier is suitable for the Elegia. It is a fully portable system which is great. It’s exactly the same as a ZenDAC but portable. It’s also powerful enough for my 300ohm HD6XX. This is going to be my office/work setup. My new desktop setup consists of RME ADI-2 and HD800S, so far. However that’s an entirely different level again.
:) Go Away (: Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 I have been enjoying the Focal Elegia, however is it possible to make them wireless with some sort of adaptor? Mostly I listen with wire but there are times when working, I need to move about and would make it lot easier instead of taking them on and off all the time.

I must say though that they had quite a bit of excess stock. The B-stock sale was around for close to a couple of months

I have seen people rig headphones with a short cable and a Fiio BTR5. Double sided tape or or clip it on. Just run it balanced if you can, more power.

The other options are EarStudio ES100, BTR3, BTR1K, uBTR, A&K XB10, or if you really really want to make a style statement then TaoTronics TT-BA09 or something similar with built in battery. There may be more but that should give you a starting point :)

Yes it is double sided cables headphone. So BTR5 would work with shorter double sided cable. But given the price of BTR5, I think I will stick to my Audio Technica ATHM50XBT for mobile work and focal Elegia for home listening.

Even in the Fiio lineup itself. 1

I didn't even know about these adapter apart from FIIO ubtr from my initial google search. These do seem viable options. Are there any bluetooth cables available? something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HYMWSGY?tag=mlc0d8-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1 but with 2.5mm plugs?

Probably not. They are for IEMs really. The BTR lineup is the same thing, you just need to buy a custom short cable accordingly.

Now, where can I get quality shorter cable?

626tomp Posted June 14, 2020 Posted June 14, 2020 Only other option i can think of for super short cables is a diy one. Problem is its such a niche use-case that nobody makes them that short.
Bengineer Posted June 14, 2020 Posted June 14, 2020 There is a cable maker that uses a mini XLR at the split and at the end. To allow you to snap on and off ends and whatnot. That without the main cable run would work. Be easy $100 though.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I think the cost adds up with the adapter and cable. I think it would be best to use this at home and use the Audio technica for work.
Mika1612 Posted June 15, 2020 Posted June 15, 2020 Should the USB 3 ports on my 15inch 2014 MacBook Pro have enough juice to power the hip DAC? Judging by today, I think no because the hip DAC just lost power. Or am I doing something wrong? Is the USB C supplied cable the only charging/power point for the hip DAC?
