Jolyon Boyle Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 Hi Folks, I currently have a pair of Focal Aria 906 bookshelf speaks sitting on some IKEA stands. The IKEA stands (as shown in the image above) elevate the speakers roughly 200 mm above the floor. The stands are metal with no rubber feet or other fixings to ground them to my timber floor. In my opinion most of the stands sold in retail shops are quite large and unsightly. I seeking any feedback and experiences readers may have had with better quality stands and whether there are any reasonably affordable alternative options out there. Cheers, Jol

lebowski Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 @JolB I do agree that modern speaker stands are mostly unattractive. I like Audiofurn speaker stands, understated and industrial looking and do come up for sale occasionally
Luc Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 There was a pair of these on Gumtree a while back (minus the Charios of course!), I'd of loved to have got them. The Italians take design seriously. I doubt they're still there, they were in Syd. Good sheetmetal shop or steel fabricator with a bend press and then some powder coating would approximate these ones too. probably go over your budget though.
jeromelang Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 No tilt. Tilting changes frequency characteristics. Avoid metal.
Pim Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 Design your own with metal pipe in mind. Sand and lead filled metal pipe works really well (I agree with Jerome above to avoid metal if it can't be filled) Take your design to a metal worker / welder. You would be surprised by how cheap they can make it for. Steel doesn't cost much and a professional welder can put something together in a couple of hours.
GregWormald Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 Getting your speakers rigidly supported so they don't move at all, and to the right height will make a substantial difference. You can use wood or hollow square metal tubing (yes, fill the tubes to dampen any ringing). As Pim suggests a metal fabricator can make your design quite cheaply. I've done that quite successfully in the past. Ensure that you leave room for spikes, and something to protect the floor! The design is up to you, but they will almost always look like stands.
swampy3 Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Hi Jol so you still have the ikea speaker stands - I’d like to buy them. regards TonyH

blakey72 Posted February 1 Posted February 1 I just use the cheaper ones from Selby and fill them with sand. https://www.selby.com.au/tv-brackets-stands/speaker-stands.html
