They definitely have their own preferences, 2 of our cats will sit on a lap whether I’m listening to music or have the surround sound system on, while the other two will hangout for music but hate the surround sound. It’s divided along gender lines, but as they were all desexed I don’t whether to read anything into that!

Well, we have had a slight cool change, but I don’t know if it is really cool enough for two cats. Guess what song I’ll have to play next?

Ha! Now that I see it, that was the obvious choice! I went with “Cool for Cats!

This post could also be called “why streaming matters”. Grace keeping me company post surgery, streaming only for a few days. Might have to stay of the EDM, find something calming to listen to.

Many years ago I fractured my spine and was told to stay in bed for a month, getting up every half-hour to ensure I maintained mobility. I had the stereo moved into the bedroom and played my entire LP collection from A to Z—changing sides to ensure I maintained mobility. That was some paid vacation!

Samantha the cat (now long gone :bye:) kept me company for many hours.

Hot day here too - but we have the aircon blasting and snuggles watching ‘Devotion’ (after coming in from an attempt to slowly bake herself in the front sun room).

A common theme today! Byron is a bit miffed at the current ban on lap sitting, but also happy to share space beneath the aircon vents and enjoy some tunes.

Otter Beast (120 lbs of Black Lab-water buffalo mix) Hudson Shepherd (85 lbs GSD), Ella Shepherd (75 lbs Shepherd-Husky mix maybe, at least she sheds and yipes like one). About 280 lbs of first floor front-line defense. They protect us against every UPS truck and randomly blown leaf in the neighborhood sometimes. tame as kittens.

Hudson’s my service dog (service-connected PTSD), goes just about everywhere with me, loves kids (but hasn’t ever eaten a whole one).

We always had Shepherds, up until my last two passed on, about 10 years ago now. Due to age, I downsized to a Jack Russell Terrier, who I thought would be less demanding.. Boy, how wrong I was LOL.

Max was a male German Shepherd/Husky cross, we rescued from the pound, and yes they "talk" rather than bark so much. He was almost 50Kg (110 lbs)at his heaviest, but a big sook.

Georgie was pure Shepherd, around 35Kg, that was also a rescue dog that had been mistreated. She was a bit temperamental when we first got her, but she came good after a while and became very loyal to the family. But look out if you're a stranger trying to enter the property..

Jack, another rescue dog, also had a few issues when we first got him, but opposite to Georgie ,he was very timid, and took a while before he gained his self confidence. He is probably the smartest dog I have had, but watches way too much TV.

@Niktech - seeing recent posts of GSDs and the various hybrid models (🤭) reminded me of your recent loss. It's damn hard when we lose one of our animals, it never goes away; I still feel the loss of my old ginger tom, TC, and that was over 25 years ago now. How are things in the household now? There will be some tough moments, of course, but is there any sign of acceptance or readiness to open-up to the possibility of a new family member?

Hey mate.  Emotions are still a bit raw - I miss Oscar, my German Shepherd, every day - but I’m slowly trying to move on.

In the next few months I will be looking for a new member of the household.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Cheers

Nik

Yeah mate, it's hard eh? My last two were both around 18 months old when we got them, 12 months apart. They both lived to 14 years old, which is pretty good for a Shep. They passed 12 months apart, and i buried Georgie on my birthday. It took four years before I could bring myself to get another dog, but I wish i had done so earlier.

Yeah mate, very hard.  14 years old is a good innings for a German Shepherd, but I’m sorry for your loss, especially for the loss of two.

Sound advice. I’ve been trying not to think about getting another dog as a sign of respect and love for Oscar, but I won’t put it off for too long.

Cheers

Nik

Whilst I understand and empathise with the sentiment, I think the guilt we feel in these situations is an unfortunate and very unfair construct of our own making.

I believe we are capable of infinite love when it comes to our families and pets. It won't run out, nor will other connections we have be compromised or supplanted by new attachments. There is a place by your fire and in your heart when you are ready, and it will have no impact on your love and fond memories of Oscar.

Good. And we will all want to see pictures. Good luck to you, Nik.

Rainy day here as well, but we have created a nest.

it is a victory nest after success in the great toothbrush hunt of ‘23…

Looks like her recovery is going well. She looks to be enjoying excellent care!
