OMG!  I need a holiday.  A puppy is like taking on a second job in an industry you know nothing about three days after having both arms amputated.

I can’t find anything in the house because nothing lives where it used to, all moved to higher ground or locked in a room. I have spent the afternoon in my motorcycle boots and pants to prevent the four legged land shark from perforating my leg arteries. We have found the best way to reduce biting / mouthing behaviour is to ignore her but that is impossible when a 2” razor sharp needle is impregnated in your skin.

However,  our little black and tan spawn of the devil is making great progress . She has begun to learn the fine art of chilling as opposed to doing 17 things simultaneously. Her behaviour around the chickens is far improved and she no longer rushes at them, we have great hopes that a couple more week’s training and she will pose no risk.  Hanging her head out the car window is a new favourite pass time and she is walking off lead without disappearing into the distance and usually staying close or returning on command.

I hold great fears for the longevity of all furniture, knobs of draws, any electrical cord , my hifi , every stick , plant , piece of wood and all clothing and especially shoes and flip flops. Running the broom over the kitchen used to be such a simple task.

Having read this now adds context to your Mar 1 post where things were amazing.

reading this and it seems you have a normal puppy.

Our puppy destroyed at a minimum value an amount equivalent to what we paid the breeder (perhaps even more if we counted everything). Lucky for her she looks so beautiful and has a loving nature.  There’s a lot to be said about getting a 2 year old well trained dog.  Although by the time you get to the well trained they are keepers.

May her training and adult teeth progress even more rapidly.

Indeed PKay!  Fear not we were definitely expecting this and can already see how hard she is fighting the temptation to destroy our lower limbs every time she see

I will try again, posted too quickly once again!

She is really trying to avoid the temptation of attacking our feet but like an alcoholic falling off the wagon she just can’t keep it up!  We were expecting all these behaviours and I am still amazed by just how much she has learned in such a short time.  Her love of every passing human is incredible.

She has every available toy and chew available but soon tires of them to attack all the stuff that is much more fun.  Tomorrow I am off to some cheap chain store after work to find those icy-pole moulds to make her some ice treats to entertain our little land shark.  They also grow so fast it will be just a short time till anything on the kitchen benches will be fair game, there are only so many places eight feet in the air to store stuff!

For you essay today, I give an 11!
You’ve helped to remind me that our 2 excitable dalmations aren’t really too stressful.  🤣

Just thank your lucky stars you don’t have 101 dalmations, imagine how stressful that must have been!  Hmmm , reminds me of a Dene Friedman song.

Well, Mrs Godot and I have been away for a month. Our cats have been well cared for in their own home, but there are definitely clues that we have been missed. Grace just follows me around, if I go out the front door she sits there and waits for me to come back in so she can enthusiastically greet me all over again.
Grace has been with us for over 8 years, rescued as a kitten with her sister Tabitha. She has never sat on my lap on the couch in all of that time until we had our first day at home after returning yesterday! Never say never! (Romeo Void, not Justin Bieber).

The resident land shark 🦈 is growing up fast.  She is failing puppy school badly due to her adoration for all humans and dogs which makes her deaf to all commands!  I can not believe just how fast she is, a real pocket rocket .

Loves the bush and going to the cafe. We should have called her Batman with her built in mask and oversized ears.

Congrats on the new pup, she looks like a very sweet girl.

With the biting the best training technique I've found which worked really well with all of my blue dogs is called soft mouth training.

It's actually the opposite of what you've been doing where instead of ignoring her in which she'll just treat as a game/challenge you pretend it really hurts.

Really give it your best Oscar performance and cry out.

How it works is she doesn't want to hurt you and if she thinks she is she'll realise that us humans are very fragile things.

It also has the benefit of if she ever bites someone later in life due to reacting to something it most likely will be soft.

Good advice Martykt . We have been employing both techniques since day one but sometimes you don’t want to be screaming out like the world is ending in the backyard , or even the house.  It certainly stops her in the short term but we have found the effects seem longer lived when we leave the room. Unfortunately that comes with it’s own risks as she takes the opportunity to reap revenge by attacking my headphones or the wife’s books!  She might be young but I have no doubt she knows exactly what she is up to.  I think the generalisation that kelpies have more of a rebellious streak than border collies certainly holds true.

Thanks for the advice which is a great tool for all those dealing with puppies.

Kelpies are probably more similar to Blue Heelers in that way.

Yes she knows exactly what she's doing, Kelpies are extremely smart.

This morning Grace has decided that my lap just won’t do but the small side table will. Maybe she is waiting for a call?

Once again arriving too late for the morning lap, only to find ginger ninja Byron already ensconced, Oreo’s look of resigned contempt says it all.

Finally a little rain way out west, it's been a long dry summer here (West Wyalong)

A nice morning in, spinning Prong, Porcelain Bus, Dan Terminus, Stevie Wonder and Uriah Heep vinyl.

After nearly 500 mls of rain for the month of March, I nearly had to give Ming snorkel and flippers when I let her out this morning.
