Hulgich Audio Posted October 26, 2024 Posted October 26, 2024 4 hours ago, mloutfie said: Is that some sort of custom crossover to match the amplifier impedance response? A small circuit comprising a coil, capacitor, and resistor is commonly employed to reduce impedance in the frequency range of 1 to 5 kHz. Some speakers exhibit high impedance within this range, which can make tube amplifiers particularly sensitive producing a shouty or edgy sound. The Impedance Correction Circuit (ICC) specifically targets and reduces impedance in this frequency range. Since each speaker model has a different impedance profile, it is necessary to design a unique ICC for each speaker. Additionally, the ICC is primarily beneficial for tube amplifiers; it is not required when using any transistor amplifiers. 3

Slobaja Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 Hi all, What are the actual external dimensions of the Nina boxes? They seem a bit deeper to me, will they be able to be listened to in smaller rooms? Thanks,
Hulgich Audio Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 Hi Slobaja, Thanks for contacting us. The Nina's are a very flexible speakers which was originally design for small rooms, but it does very well in bigger rooms as well. We have a few customers with very small rooms and they are very happy with the sound they are getting. The Nina's dimensions are:

Good to see interest in these World class speakers, you are spot on as very deep compared to many conventional designs. I've got a larger room measuring 8 x 4M, but have seating in middle and ran the Nina's around 2.9m away very successfully. Bit hard to demo where you are, will need to be more a leap of faith, but rest assured they will be an asset in your system! Edited December 1, 2024 by evil c 2

evil c Posted January 8 Author Posted January 8 (edited) Forgot to mention had a bit of a mishap late last year ! While suffering some nasty lurgy, made the mistake of deciding to play a few albums . Anyway, after a rare spate of clumsiness, (please be kind), I lowered my Supatrac arm onto the LP and watched in horror as it skated across the record! My worst fears were soon confirmed, looking through the magnifier there was definitely no longer any diamond tip on the My Sonic Labs Ultra Eminent EX cart! After the initial shock, I collected my thoughts and remembered that Chris from All Clear Audio @cafe latte has a very good reputation for cartridge repairs . So after a long conversation pouring out my woes, and wretched bad luck he set to work on a rebuild. Fortunately I had managed to cleanly remove the tip only, so it was a simple matter of replacing the diamond tip onto the Boron cantilever. Had it back in a matter of a few days, and instantly it was a different cartridge- in a very good way! Just seems to have an extra nimbleness, and detail to it so ended up being a very good outcome! evil c Posted Thursday at 07:08 AM Author Posted Thursday at 07:08 AM (edited) Time for an update on my system! Recent arrival at evil Springs, as a firm fan of the feathered variety it seems more than appropriate to have another "bird" ! The Lyrebird integrated EL84 tube amplifier. It was recently reviewed by Stereonet's own Mark Gusew, and his comments were very positive in all aspects! https://stereonet.com/reviews/lyrebird-el84-4-integrated-amplifier-review Fully Aussie built, with ultra high quality hand wound transformers, Mundorf caps , zero feedback and quite compact with first class aesthetics and looks. My two sons saw it sitting on the shelf, and straight away commented on how good it looked. I have just installed it in my system, and decided to try it firstly with my big boys, the Hulgich Astor speakers - while only rated around 20W /channel l was instantly amazed how good it sounded, and after a few hours of warm up is really opening up and developing a bigger sound! This is a very nimble amplifier, that extracts an incredible amount of detail from the digital or analog source! It has qualities that set it apart from my conventional Conrad Johnson GAT preamp and ET250S power amp, slightly leaner mids but it seems to dig even deeper with excellent soundstage.and tonality. It's been great fun most of this afternoon rediscovering many of my favourite Artists and songs! This Lyrebird was originally demoed a couple of years ago with the Hulgich Nina stand mount speakers, and was pronounced as a match in heaven together ! As l have a pair of Nina's here, I'm excited to hear how they perform together - so stay tuned and I'll update on my impressions. If anyone wants to hear the Lyrebird amplifier, happy to give you an audition . Just send me a PM. @Grizzly is the distributor of these, and now more than ever local manufacturers need our support!
