New Sensations Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 I'm in the market for a new listening chair. It must be an armchair with arms, but none of that Eames repro stuff - I've decided it's too Gordon Gecko for me. A big, chunky armchair is what I'm after but I'm looking for something quite "special". If that means $$$, then so be it.
protecon Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 http://www.lazboy.com.au/furniture-category.aspx?id=25 They make ones with built-in fridges in the arms too

rantan Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Club type chairs always make music sound good. Modern stuff is like Bose. Check this out but ditch the cushion http://www.ecochic.com.au/shop/Shop+by+Category/Furniture/Lounge+Chairs/Hadleigh+Leather+Club+Chair.html

THOMO Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 I made myself a Morris type chair which works very well.A design classic, masculine, and nice functional timber arms.It would be pretty expensive to make however. You can buy some pretty nice looking reproductions.
coppinger Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 I, like Thomo, favour a Morris chair and am in/on one right now. pity about the associations with the eames Chair..the reproductions can be had for very little and it is one comfortable chair. you want something a bit different...alternative even? http://www.google.com.au/imgres?imgurl=http://www.netropolitan.org/gehry/chair2.gif&imgrefurl=http://www.netropolitan.org/gehry/chair2.html&h=438&w=650&sz=166&tbnid=xFOA2GlYBNUoBM:&tbnh=92&tbnw=137&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dcardboard%2Barmchair%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=cardboard+armchair&usg=__1qOeTakAHJFKKoid5GFpbQeRukQ=&sa=X&ei=v-bUTcn9DoigsQOK9630Cw&ved=0CDwQ9QEwBA
New Sensations Posted May 19, 2011 Author Posted May 19, 2011 How 'bout this? Nah, that's for folks who like "accuracy".
Saxon Hall Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Whatever happened to Smokey Dawson? He used to promote a Recliner/Lift Chair years ago. I recently inherited a similar style of chair to that and it is quite comfortable but no where as stylish as an Eames Armchair. I have recently tried some other designs and I have found the Stressless and Nordic brand Armchairs to be very comfortable. BTW Eames Armchairs are still available as a fully licensed (not repro) new product. Look here if interested (and have enough money)http://www.livingedge.com.au/catalog/view.php?itemid=130&return=productCatalogProductCategory%253D0%2526productCatalogProductBrand%253D77%2526productCatalogProductDesigner%253D0%2526page%253D1&productCatalogProductCategory=0&productCatalogProductBrand=77&productCatalogProductDesigner=0&page=1
kunalraiker Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Eames Lounge Chair couldn't be beaten,no matter what you say.
Bunyip Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Whatever you go for I'd make 2 recommendations: 1 - It has a footrest. Gotta be able to put the feet up I reckon. 2 - It can recline a bit, or is in a reclined pose. Part of the whole relaxing into the music. Good luck on your hunt mate! When are you coming back to Melb?
Guest Peter the Greek Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 I like these: Not really an armchair.....if you want something classic give Mr Smiths Interiors in Drummoyne a call, they can get some real nice stuff - found a chair for us but we went with two sofa's instead
New Sensations Posted May 19, 2011 Author Posted May 19, 2011 What about a wooden antique? As I say to Year 9: "There's always one.".

markm1111 Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 I have always been a fan of the Tessa T21. World class and awarded Australian design, Australian made, still available new but also many on the second hand market. Been around for almost 40 years I think.
Once was an audiophile Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 How 'bout this? too much current and jd will turn into a valve himself
