I have been checking out the Keces p8 LPS.

http://www.kecesaudio.com/

My CAPS Lagoon PC runs a smps 19v 4.5amp so 85.5 watts.      Even in operation it is barely even slightly warm to the touch.

My Sotm PCIe USB 3.0 Card currently runs off the power from the Motherboard.

The specs for the PCIe are as follows ...

Internal

Input voltage : +12.0Vdc(+0.5V, -0.5V)Input current : 2A max4pin IDE power connector

External

Input voltage : +6.5V ~ +9VdcInput current : 2A max5.5mm OD, 2.1mm ID DC adaptor jack

The Keces p8 in single rail format runs 19v 8amp and also has a USB that runs 5v 1amp.

My question is will the USB input of 5v 1amp be enough to run the PCIe Card externally?

That spec of +6.5V ~ +9Vdc has me doubting it but I am not a power buff by any stretch.

For USB PCIe card like Sotm, 5vdc @ 1A is enough. For network card or Switch, 2A is recommended.

Back in those days, we tested and found Sotm sounded best at 7.5Vdc or about.

hope it helps.

Champion Chanh thanks.

While you are here.........what's you thoughts on the following.     If I use the Keces 5v 1 amp external power to the Card, do I need to unplug the 4 din IDE power from the MB or leave it attached?      Will the PCIe board auto sense the Keces and use that power input?    I see on the USB Card there is some jumpers.

See page 7.    I presume I need to turn them to ON

Any idea?

I was just rechecking stuff on the Sotm website and found this in the Q&A section.

The external power input voltage is +6.5V  +9Vdc, and the input current is 2A max.

While using the external power supply, please connect the internal 4 pin IDE power connector. This is to protect in any case if the external power get failed.

There's my answer.

top left of the board is the    JP401, JP402 : External power input jack enable jumper

I take by either removing or leaving those black tabs in place, turns the external input on/off.   Is that right?

I would not connect that IDE power if external DC Jack is used. LPS via DC Jack will sounds better.
