djb Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 groove tracker metal sub platter for $199 free postage cheeky boy will appear soon and sing its praises 4 for sale seems a good buy if u believe the regas benefit from the extra weight - the sub platter they come with is certainly flimsy. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DeepGroove-Metal-sub-platter-Rega-P2-P3-and-P25-/320701420688?pt=AU_Electronics_Home_Audio_Turntables&hash=item4aab4b5490#ht_500wt_922
mikey d Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 What are you waiting for? There is no comparison with the stock. May as well order the platter too.
djb Posted May 31, 2011 Author Posted May 31, 2011 mikey i am [currently] n the camp that says regas r so good because they got it right and they should be pretty much left alone. only mod on mine if u can call it that is a rewired 250 arm with a nos shure/pickering v15 111 cart if i want a more elegant/analytical sound i use a different tt

True the re-wire improves the tonearm performance but it's surprising how both 'upgrades' collectively consolidate each other's gains !!
EDGEAUDIO Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 (edited) The Groove Tracer sub-platter makes a real difference. The standard sub's work (of-course) but their tolerances vary considerably due to their injection moulded design. I actually spun mine up on lathe and was shocked at the radial runout (can't remember what it was...) but it was somewhere around 0.020" in a couple of spots with a 90 degree separation. The GT unit however had 0.0007 " total. Things became much smoother with the GT sub. BTW, I have the top model Reference sub. Not sure about the Deep Groove products:p Edited June 1, 2011 by EDGEAUDIO Just looked at link
xtrachewy Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 And if you subscribe to Michael Lim - motor isolation makes a big difference as well: http://lpturntables.blogspot.com/search/label/Motor%20vibration%20isolation%20base
RockandorRoll Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 i have both the sub platter and the top platter. The trouble is i changed so much at once that its hard to pick the difference. I have the middle of the road SubPlatter i noticed a larger difference just changing the cart mine also has the Cardas rewire but that was done before i bought it so i cant give impressions of before and after
