I'm a fan of Jason Segal and Harrison Ford is also good in this. Yeah, season 2 was very good, if slightly different. They show a teaser trailer for season 3 at the end of the last episode 1

Godot Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Looking forward to this series. I’ve read the books a few times, for me it looks like it will be captivating viewing 3
NoCoder Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 I have finished Season 1 of Shrinking and it's up there with my favourite shows of the last 5-10 years. First 1-2 episodes take a little bit to develop the character dymanics and it's fantastic from then on. Segal and Harrison Ford are excellent, but the Gaby and Liz steal the show for me, with Liz's husband, Derek, also hilariously good (Ted McGinley is perfect in this smaller role). Can't wait for a Second season

Ian McP Posted June 29, 2023 Posted June 29, 2023 Hijack: first few episodes are now up, escapist fun! As long as you're on terra firma. https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2023/jun/28/hijack-review-idris-elba-makes-this-beautifully-daft-plane-thriller-soar < The Luther star is majestically charismatic in this real-time hijack drama. He is the rock on which seven hours of brilliant, bingeable nonsense are based Apple TV+’s latest offering is Idris Elba on a Plane. He plays ordinary guy Sam Nelson – known for his business negotiating skills back on Earth – who finds himself trapped on a hijacked flight and forced into the role of reluctant hero. So it’s Idris Elba in Die Hard, too. And the seven-hour journey plays out in almost real time, so he is also Kiefer Sutherland in 24. Or rather it’s Idris Elba in 7, but the actual title of this brilliantly executed, suspenseful, daft and wholly convincing ride is Hijack. It doesn’t even have an exclamation mark. I don’t know what the marketing people were thinking, but the casting folk played a blinder. Only Elba could carry this perfect piece of summer insanity off. Even then, it requires every ounce of his physically and metaphorically massive presence to do so. > 2 1

It’s a premise that’s hard hard to work with and often ends up corny. It’s not a fault with this - super tense, and slowly winds up the intensity. Idris, as always, is Idris - stunning performance that holds it all together. Edited June 29, 2023 by TheBlackDisc 1
Godot Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 In anticipation of the new series of Foundation, I’m watching the first season again. It’s a good refresher for me, there was a lot to understand on the first viewing. As Mrs Godot and I are now both retired, and enjoying the process of learning how to actually live together full time, I bought some Apple AirPods Pro 2 for those times when I want to watch something she doesn’t want to have intruding on whatever she is doing. This is my first foray into IEMs of any kind, and I am very impressed. Watching content via an Apple TV and listening via connected AirPods is quite amazing. The soundstage width and depth, the clarity of sounds and their locations is very impressive. I still really like the 5.2 surround system, but I’m to use the AirPods when required without feeling like I’m missing out on much at all. 1
Ian McP Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 Incorrectly mentioned this was on Disney Plus, actually rented it via Apple TV Living starring Bill Nighy recommended 2
Ars Paart Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 I have started watching Foundation. I have read all of Asimov's work but, as of the end of the third episode, I cannot for the life of me work out what the hell this is about.

I haven't read the books, and I too had a bit of problem trying to fathom what was going on ; I think it took me until episode 5 before I had a good idea. Coming back to Foundation for series 2 after a long break sort of left me in the same situation, but episode 2 made it clear again, and where the story was heading. One of the best Sci Fi series ATM IMHO, both acting and production wise, just as well as Apples new content has left me unimpressed for the most part.....I'm waiting for series 3 of Slow Horses, which at least won't be hampered by the writers and actors strike.
Cope Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 I have to say that, while I'm enjoying Foundation (the way Lee pace is playing many iterations of the same character over and over and still finding ways to differentiate them is superb), and Silo was fun enough (although it didn't feel fully fleshed out at times, Rebecca Ferguson has been great), it's For All Mankind that is the standout. I've been a fan of Ron D Moore's work for a long time, all through his 'Klingon guy' days on various Star Treks, and the Battlestar reboot, but I think For All Mankind is absolutely the best thing he's ever put his hand to. Do yourself a favour and ignore the trailer (which seems to be comprised almost exclusively of later season work-in-progress shots) and just go in cold knowing only it's an alternate history space race starting in the late sixties. It's an extremely slow burn Mad Men style retro show with brilliant character work, historical accuracy (or riffing off historical accuracy using real unused speeches and deep fakes where it deviates from our reality), and moments (usually in space) that are truly gripping. Lots of little touches, too. I think it was a very early episode in the command centre when the director looks at his watch to mark the time, and the actor gives his wrist two very quick, absent shakes before raising it to his eye-line, because it's 1969 and it's an auto so that's the sort of habit you might form. It's a tiny thing but I remember thinking 'geez, they've really thought about every aspect of this'. Highly recommended. 2 1
lucmor444 Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 Must just be me but I thought Rebecca Ferguson didn’t get the role of Juliette right in Silo. Presented her as too full of doubt and rather timid whereas my reading of the character has her more confident and competent.

I binge watched "For All Mankind" just after the 3rd series ended, apparently series 4 is moving the timeline into the 2000's, which prior to the writer/actors strike, was due to be released in October 2023. I also started to watch SILO when that started, and enjoyed it, hopefully we will get to see a season 2, there at least was a season 2 scheduled, but that's no certainty any more since the writer/actors strike. I had watched the ScFi series The Peripheral on Amazon Prime and was waiting for series 2, which had been confirmed, but since the strikes Amazon has just announced it has decided to cancel the series instead ......I expect this might be the fate of several other series as well, leaving a lot of series without a conclusion, which is the worse fate for everybody concerned 1
Tweaky Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 Well the last of series two of Foundation finished last Friday, so I'm going to need something to replace it. Thankfully I've read that season 3 of Slow Horses will start on Friday December 1st and run until the 29th 1

Tweaky Posted October 22, 2023 Posted October 22, 2023 I've been watching a few shows on APPLE. The horror story based series "The Changeling", which has been OK, if not slightly confusing at times [Season 2 finished on Friday] The SciFi series Invasion [It must be near the end of series 2, if there is a 3rd series ?], which TBH I've only been watching to see how it ends, as the acting is 2nd rate and the plot is all over the place, with a script that is very predictable. The new series ''Lessons in Chemistry'', which is only 3 episodes in, which for what it is, is pretty good [Basically a woman trapped by circumstance and male prejudice in the mid 50's. I watched the small documentary of ex British Spy and Author John Le Carre, called "The Pigeon Tunnel", you learn a bit about his parents and childhood, but nothing is mentioned of his many extra marital affairs [ According to a review of the doco I read in the guardian - Apparently he contacted all the women he had affairs with over the years as the documentary was being made, telling them to keep quiet ] Its a interesting view none the less. I'm looking forward to the 4th series "For All Mankind", which starts on 10th November.
