Doublejack Posted August 15, 2020 Posted August 15, 2020 Hi all, I have a 135 inch screen that I need to mount to a wall with brackets, the screen weighs about 15 kg, it needs to be 400mm to 450mm from the wall to go in front of a TV that sits on a TV stand. I'm hoping to buy something strong that is made for projector screens instead of the Bunnings bracket route.
hopefullguy Posted August 15, 2020 Posted August 15, 2020 (edited) hmm i would be looking at some sort of shelf along the wall, with underneath supports to take the weight at that distance. you could make it a feature by diy with a nice piece of real wood and supports or just paint the whole thing the same colour as the tv/screen wall. usually a dark colour is used anyway on that wall so the shelf will blend in and not be noticed that much. betty boop Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 projectors are usually hung from ceiling ? should be able to pick up the ceiling rafters... if they run parallel to wall just mount to those where they are ... if perpendicular can mount any distance from wall prefer. use some decent coach bolts... though most screens usually come with suitable hardware for mounting otherwise there is always bunnings you can also get suitable ceiling hooks if necessary.
Esoterica Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 Ceiling mounting may not be an option for some reason, but holes will have to be put into the wall at least. Wall mounting your TV would make it easier @Doublejack as you won’t require such distance from the wall. The farther from the wall, the more pressure on the mounting points. Still, it can be done, but choice of material and construction will need a bit more thought. Might have to be custom made. I recently did this myself. This is only temporary and the blind weighs a lot less than 15kg, but it illustrates the point. I planned on fixing it to four studs, but decided two were more than enough, once installed. I lost my design train of thought due to rushing to get it made, but it can easily be improved aesthetically with a piece of the same primed timber along the front and perhaps top also, forming a pelmet, and then fixing the blind ends to that, thus hiding it. Because it’s temporary I probably won’t bother. If I was making what you require, I’d probably weld a bracket that couldn’t flex at the screen mounting points, but buying something? I don’t know if the product exists.
Zeroasylum Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 (edited) Depending on how much you wish to fabricate another option which I have used many times for installs is to use ezystrut also known as unistrut. L&H in VIC sell this as do other electrical supply stores. It’s the most versatile system ever. It is very heavy duty (use it a lot in industry settings and for cable management/mounting solutions) but future proof. The channel system also allows you to adjust the screen distance from wall/tv to any amount you would like. Bracket in link below would work with some paint and some coach screws. https://www.ezystrut.com.au/products/cantilever-brackets/cb2-bracket/cb2h/ I have also attached a sample bracket I made for a projector (double stack) so you can see how versatile it can be. Guest rmpfyf Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 Depends how big and flush you want to go. Double screws into a wall joist at both ends will pick that load up no problem, you'd drop a few in the centre just to pick up any deflection. You'll be at the ~10GA side of things for screws at some 75mm to go hard, and will want to set your heads right relative to whatever framing your screen hardware has. If serious I'd go the long route; cut your cornice out and pack a frame out from the wall with usual pine MGP10. A couple of screws into the ceiling joists to pick up any differential movement in the home over time, box it up nice with plaster and run your cornice around it. If you're really worried about movement use a LVL. Second sounds overkill but we've all got a few weeks to kill down here
TP1 Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 This looks like it will fit the bill. https://www.amazon.com.au/WALI-Universal-Projector-Adjustable-PSM001/dp/B0798XKHJ4/ref=asc_df_B0798XKHJ4/?tag=googleshopdsk-22&linkCode=df0&hvadid=341774294791&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7401161470864462034&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9070612&hvtargid=pla-444905434700&psc=1
