GaryT Posted September 9, 2020 Posted September 9, 2020 I've made some new DIY cables inspired by classy cotton sleeved cables from top end brands like Entreq and similar. These are based on VanDamme Silver Series "Session Grade" Lo-Cap cable (268-900-055). Designed to be the best cable possible for the worlds best guitarists, but very useable for Hi-Fi due to it's relatively low capacitance for a fully shielded coaxial design. The cable is relatively heavy gauge silver plated UP-OFC copper, for the best aspect of both silver and copper conductors without being overly bright. The main insulator is a multi layer foamed polyethylene and it uses a conductive thermoplastic shielding layer then a heavy silver plated UP-OFC copper braid. Then I've sleeved them in raw cotton braided tubing and terminated with AECO star-line RCA connectors which are a low mass silver plated tellurium copper RCA connector. I like them so much I made up a 1m pair for my power amp, a 0.7m pair for my CD player and a 2m pair for my turntable with a separate ground added. I also have a spare 1m pair that are bare cable without the cotton sleeve that were my prototype set. I'm using the spare set for my old sonos player at the moment, but I usually use a Canare Spdif cable for that. These are dynamic, articulate cables that avoid harshness and offer a traditional fully shielded unbalanced design without too much of the drawbacks of capacitance and inductance that usually comes with that. 3
Misternavi Posted September 9, 2020 Posted September 9, 2020 so is it the Van damme cable with cotton cover?

The cable comes with a transparent sheath to show off the full silver braid, but I decided to sleeve them with cotton for a more unique look. The cable is quite attractive on it's own though.
Misternavi Posted September 9, 2020 Posted September 9, 2020 yeah, i use the lo-cap 55 cable in my system. doesn’t get a lot of mentions which is a shame because it’s really good and easy to terminate. did you hear a difference with and without cotton? or was it purely cosmetic?
GaryT Posted September 10, 2020 Author Posted September 10, 2020 The cotton is too far from any conductors to make a difference, I just like the way it looks and feels!
