Hi,

To answer hohi and hopefully help out fellow Aaron speaker owners, I can report that I have tried both of the tweeter replacements mentioned in these forums:

  •  Peerless DA25BG08-06 (from US via eBay)
  •  SB26STC-C000-4 (from Wagner)

Both have pro’s and cons. To summarise the differences:

  •  The SB model is a very crisp sound. It’s like going from a nylon guitar to a metal string guitar. Sounds beautiful, but ONLY after a lot of fiddling with the parametric eq on the receiver. Now I’m sure that purists with a lot of time could extract the same sound via a new cross-over arrangement (which technically is required due to the change in impedance compared to the original Aarons), but I don’t have a spare set of resistors and capacitors to use to test (trial-and-error) until I reach the right sound, nor do I have that much spare time.
  •  The Peerless model is a much closer fit to the original Aaron (probably due to being a lot closer in impedance match). To be honest, I couldn’t hear much difference when I had one Peerless front and one Aaron front during the swap-over.

They are both good tweeters and I’m sure both can provide a great outcome to anyone with a bit of time to tinker. In the end, my home setup now uses all three versions in these positions:

  •  Center: Aaron C120  with SB26ST-C000-4
  •  Main: ATS-1 with Peerless DA25BG08-06
  •  Surround: ATS-1 with SB26ST-C000-4
  •  Back surround: ATS-1 with original Aaron tweeters 100XM60DS-02HD

For those who don’t want to change cross-over, and don’t have a receiver with a parametric eq per channel, I believe the Peerless will be a closer match. For those who enjoy some extra detail at the top end, the SB model has plenty on offer.

This is really helpful. Only problem is I can't find the Peerless  in stock anywhere but will keep trying!

So I got my tweeter repaired.

But was surprised to find that the small spade terminal was fitted to the large (positive?) Terminal by clipping it in half. I.e reverse polarity?

Has anybody else noticed this ?

The speaker schematic doesn't suggest this. I've had them since new
