Love this album from 2013, probably my favourite from that year. Hailing from the same town as Joy Division is no bad thing, this punk infused rock is refreshing and fun. Cannot wait to see what they do next (still patiently waiting for this to get a vinyl release...)

I'm in the mood for this awesome album, my favourite solo effort from Rowland S Howard.

The vinyl is excellent, and am so glad I purchased a copy a few years back. They have half a dozen for sale on Discogs, but the entry price is $460 US. Ridiculous, and they need to re-press it like they did with Pop Crimes.

In my opinion, the two best Australian albums ever.

Too bad for me, I've overplayed both albums in the past few years and need a break...

I have a bad habit of doing that, I'll fall in love with an album or artist and then play it far too frequently.

Playing 2 great albums back to back from The Sound, a criminally underrated band from the 80s that I missed completely and only discovered last year.

Here is the Wikipedia blurb on them that includes the premature demise of the lead singer/guitarist Adrian Borland who threw himself into the path of a train:

From The Lion's Mouth (1981):

All Fall Down (1982):

From The Lion's Mouth is regarded as their best album but depending on my mood, I sometimes prefer All Fall Down which is a bit darker & experimental in comparison. I haven't really listened to the rest of their material too much but I have some CD's on the way........

Katie Melua ‎– Ketevan (Dramatico Entertainment Ltd. vinyl ‎– DRAMLP0021)

A lovely sombre yet beautiful Katie, with delicious melodies.

But some of the lyrics pretty much suck, or at least I just don't understand/get them "this is the love I'm frightened of, doesn't come with a leaflet...no detailed instructions, or Japanese symbols like you find on a washing machine"

WTF!

However, another well recorded LP, nice and quiet, albeit with a somewhat restricted soundstage.

Depeche-Mode-Exciter-393134.jpg

Just bought a copy of Exciter from Murphie Music for $3.  I was never a fan of Depeche Mode when I was younger and now I'm wondering why.  I'm really enjoying this album on first listen and can see a vinyl copy in my future.  Any recommendations re which pressing?  Also, any other Depeche Mode albums that you would recommend?  The only album I've owned up until now is Violator.

Silver Ray - This Is Silver Ray / Humans / New Love -- piano/guitar/drums trio from Melbourne. Like if Dirty Three swapped the violin for a piano and went a little Twin Peaks and cinematic. All are très beaut, but the first is prolly me fave.

Thanks Geoff,

Will check them out, should be right down my alley. :)

Especially with Cam Butler on board.

Spoon: Girls Can Tell

Perennial indie rock underdogs, this is an excellent album from this band that consistently delivers.
And fantastic on vinyl too.

Slowdive: Souvlaki

Dreamy guitar shoegaze, think Mojave 3, My Bloody Valentine, Galaxy 500, Mazzy Star etc. I came to this band late, but boy, this is one of the great 90's albums.

Brian Eno is onboard for two of the tracks too.

And an excellent doco about the album here:

John Clarke - Rootsy Reggae / Visions Of John Clarke -- some early morning reggae / dub while nibbling me corn flakes. Rootsy Reggae was originally recorded in 1979, but was later re-issued as Visions Of John Clarke, essentially a dubbier remix. Surprisingly this 2006 release is on the Basic Channel label, better known for electronic shiz.

SUN KIL MOON - Benji CD

Wasn't that impressed first time I heard this but it just keeps on growing on me.

I've ordered the Universal Themes on vinyl, but not holding my breath that I'll actually get a copy.

George Michael - Listen Without Prejudice on CD.

On high rotation at our house right now, as my partner and I bring different memories to this work.

She has happy and sad stuff around her first partner, but we both love the music on display for it's own sake.

We share 3-4 of George's albums, but this is far and away his best work of all those.

Great Friday night reflections over a glass or 4 of red wine in front of the fire.

Interestingly, the vinyl release (I've owned the original UK and AUS) is not significantly better or worse than the original CD - a digital recording with no analogue chain present at all.

Which is fine if you like playing digital CD copies transferred to wax on your turntable - else, stick with whatever else you got.
