metal beat Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 SUEDE - Suede (Demon 2014 reissue Lp) Late 90's Brit alt rock band Suede's debut album. Sound quality isn't great, but the music makes up for that. Love Suede. Great album and yes, agree sound wise its lean. The reissues are digital from memory. now playing prob my fav Suede album. Dog Man Starr - 2lp - original UK pressing. Sounds better than the first album.
metal beat Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 (edited) Sort of a Jack the Lad afternoon Jack Ladder's first record Not great but has a lot of songs with a girl on backing vocals Can see how he got to Love Is Gone and on to Hurtsville from here Love is Gone is in the same vicinity as Hurtsville Which makes Playmates the most disappointing record I have bought in decades It's what you get for high expectations I guess Not that it is bad but just not good LOL. You might need to play it some more, unless you just hate synths. I love Playmates. Just the record Jack has made to show his song writing and musical progression. hired goon Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Spiritualized - Feel So Sad -- got the sniffles, which is bringin' me down, so I thought I would play what is perhaps my favourite Spiritualized track, a 13 minute chamber pop piece. --Geoff 1
Citroen Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 A couple of Nina Simone albums on vinyl. Stroud US first pressing. SQ pretty good without being excellent. Features a 12 minute cut of Sinnerman. A gospel album, but pure Nina all the way. Also has an ensemble version of "To Be Young Gifted And Black. Songs of the Poets Australian first press, with pretty good sound quality. Mostly covers Dylan, with one George Harrison thrown in, and a couple of her own songs. Damn, not seen these two before. 1

It's quite sort of sad and sexual, I think, like the songs on the album" BTW, metal, are you from the UK, as you seem to have A LOT of original UK pressings, damn you!? It's quite sort of sad and sexual, I think, like the songs on the album" BTW, metal, are you from the UK, as you seem to have A LOT of original UK pressings, damn you!? oh yea, definately a depressing album - that's what makes it so uplifting - if that makes sense. Nah I am an Aussie, If I was from the UK, all of my pressings would be English!! heaven then. I did go on my honeymoon in 1988 and last stop was London. Came back with 143 pristine new UK pressings - damn taking them carry on was fun - not  After I got my Linn LP12 in 1985, I realised that generally UK pressings were pressed better and sounded better than US pressings and a lot of Aussie pressings., Most of the time if I had a choice I would go UK pressings if I could afford. By the late 80's Aussie pressings were almost gone. And in general, 80's and 90's music that came out of the UK was more to my musical spirit. Edited August 25, 2015 by metal beat 3
soundfan Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 UK Abkco DSD 2003 vinyl. Digital, but it sounds fantastic. All killer no filler The Beatles could only wish they rocked like the Stones. 3
Guest Misterioso Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water From the 2015 Complete Columbia Albums Collection
Guest Misterioso Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Now Sounds of Silence from the same collection. So far very good sound and pressing quality.
Get off My lawn Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Some more Tori - Under the Pink. 1994, US pressing - pink vinyl. Anyone got the new reissue? Yes, got the reissue recently.I think it sounds great but I haven't got an original pressing to compare it to. I do prefer it to my CD copy.
ABG Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Josh Ritter - Golden Age of Radio (2002 - CD). Great lo-fi Americana album. 1

hired goon Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Kiss - Rock And Roll Over -- vintage stuff from the make-up years. --Geoff 1
soundfan Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 (edited) Marc Ribot's Ceramic Dog: Your Turn A fantastic album from one of my favourite guitarists with Ches Smith on drums and Shahzad Ismally on bass. Additional musicians on selected tracks. Scorching guitar work, and although Ribot will never be regarded as a great singer, his voice suits this music perfectly. Thankfully quite a few tracks are instrumental only. Sort of reminds me of Crazy Horse at their prime. I purchased the CD not knowing at the time it was available on vinyl as well. hired goon Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Simon and Garfunkel - Bookends Love Bookends ... and I want the cover for me wall, but I never stumble across a LP that's not scuffed and worn. --Geoff 1
hired goon Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Saint Etienne - Words & Music -- got this from the cheep bins today. Imagine Pet Shop Boys with a femme singer, spinning tales about growing up listening to music. --Geoff 4
metal beat Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 AIR - Music For Museum. 2LP vinyl only release , gatefold with stunning pictures , limited to 1000 copies(sold out). Already up to $200 on discogs. Nobody could be more pretentious than AIR creating a sound track for the Palais De Beaux Arts museum in Lille as part of their Open Museum 2014 project. But like most projects AIR do, it just works - beautiful piece of music 4
soundfan Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 After the Marc Ribot album I was drawn to play this record by the majestic Tom Waits. 6
mikey d Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 After the Marc Ribot album I was drawn to play this record by the majestic Tom Waits. The vinyl edition is so much more listenable than the cd. Don't know why. 1
soundfan Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 The vinyl edition is so much more listenable than the cd. Don't know why. Yep. But I'm not surprised. All my Tom Waits albums are on vinyl, and generally they are all excellent. The all analogue Mule Variations is reference quality for mine. 4

(2007 - CD) Punked up gypsy, with ongoing thanks to @@hired goon (and accomplice) in an earlier round of ebay bulk buy beneficence. Citroen Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 (edited) Yep. But I'm not surprised. All my Tom Waits albums are on vinyl, and generally they are all excellent. The all analogue Mule Variations is reference quality for mine. I love Tom Waits and am trying to get all his output on vinyl. Have had to resort to one unofficial/bootleg versions, eg Bone Machine, and probably will have to do the same for Black Rider, unless either gets a reissue. I need Soundtrack "Night On Earth" and "Anthology of Tom Waits" on vinyl. Otherwise, apart from the singles, I think I have Waits covered, studio albums, compilations, live, soundtrack, boxsets!
