White Stripes - Icky Thump - 2 slabs of analog recorded black vinyl heaven. Superb music and recording.  Jack White , just like Keef Richards knows that analog is king.

This is interesting.  Drums, bass and violin.  Okaaay then.  Like it a lot, builds up nicely and is minimal but dirty in all the right places.  Just a pity it's only an EP and there's not more of it.

Then moved onto Yob, because a bit more doom felt like the right thing you know?

And finishing with The Cosmic Dead because well quite frankly it follows up The Great Cessation nicely and that put me in the mood for more of this style.

Olafur Arnalds -- Found Songs

Recent reissue of a 2009 recording on my favourite Erased Tapes label. The song were written, arranged, recorded, mixed and mastered, one per day, for seven days. 7 tracks on 10 inch 33.

Exquisite stuff, more relevant to the sunday night ambient thread but I'm following @@Janjuc and chilling this morning. If you know Arvo Part's Spiegel im Spiegel then this is in the same space.

Sounds interesting. Now on my phone via spotify to check out on my Monday morning commute

Wow, first time I've heard that scumbag ;)

Cool to explain your reasons why? I love the HUGE soundstage but, yeah..

Mezzanine is the pinnacle :thumb:

Just my personal taste. And I do like MA's earlier stuff too but this was, I believe Robert Del Naja's first "solo" effort. It has a purer electronic edge and pretty much avoids the dub influences of the previous albums. There are some weaker tracks but the more driving, hypnotic tracks are real "headphone" delights. I bought my first LP in 1980, it was Gary Numan and it was new wave so you can see where my personal tastes gravitate towards.....

Footy is over, back to some tunes.  :)

Warpaint: The Fool

One of the reasons I picked up this CD today was the vague memory I had of good things said about their last album released last year. I also recall it mentioned here on this fine thread.

I can now understand the hype.

But..... I was still surprised to find out that the group are all female, and one of the girls hails from Sydney.  I'll be checking out their self titled release from last year for sure.

Spinning some recent shiz on CD:

Man With No Name - Teleportation -- goa trance from back in the day.
Tindersticks - Working For The Man -- 2CD, a best-of compilation on one CD and B-Sides on the other CD.
The Tea Party - Seven Circles -- I dismissed this when first released, nothing like Splendor Solis or Edges Of Twilight, but revisiting and on its own terms it's nae too bad.

Rolling Stones: Some Girls

Always loved this great rock n roll record. The Australian 1st pressing is excellent too, punchy and dynamic.

Mezzanine's Dissolved Girl on The Matrix was what kicked off my love affair with the album, and band, Teardrop was all over the radio for Hottest 100 and the like, but I actually didn't buy it until hearing this track which for mine had the perfect mix of riffs mixed with trip-hop goodness.

Took a while to warm to 100th Window, until one night alone in the dark cranked it, and the soundstage blew my tiny mind, been a while about due a spin and will give it a go in the cans :thumb:

Being a big fan of Pleasure Priniciple for the awesome Cars, I was amazed and talked a few months back with the Jackenator about how surprisingly brilliant and rocky Replicas is, and almost tough depending on mood wihch one of the two to give a spin.

A long time Radiohead fan, and remembering ages back Jeremy Sims from ch9s late night smutfest Chances on the radio having a debate with someone about who were better, Radiohead or Suede, and always meant to give them a burl, so finally today got around to giving this a spin..

and talking The Matrix..

Whoa..

An incredible album full of some I guess androgenous vocals and catchy riffs. Very cool :thumb:

Also being listening to Berlin era Bowie a lot of late too..

Time for some Muse next me thinks ;)

Time for the album of the year.  Well, okay.  Album of the Year then.  :D

Fnm_aoty.jpg

Then because of some of the guitars in that, I felt like some SC3.  Started off with Book M, but only got a couple of songs in.  Always been my least favourite SC3 album, just seemed too electronic dance like for my tastes.

So some classic Second Grand Constitution and Bylaws it is then.

Then a bit of 90s Aussie grunt to end today's listening.  Unless I do end up listening to QOTSA like I almost did.  Back in the day, if I had to describe Scary Mother I would have said they're like a heavier Pearl Jam but with keyboards.  Yeah, close enough.

Jen Cloher & The Endless Sea: Hidden Hands

I freaking love this album, am listening to it over headphones at the minute. Beautifully recorded, great songs, we certainly have some fabulous female talent in this country.
