Reports on pricing of the "new app" that will replace Zappiti Video:

The new subscription pricing for the replacement app will be $5.99/mo or $50.00/yr.

I assume that is USD.

I think that is being forgotten @powerav by the thousands with pitchforks at the ready across social media. It still functions, and still plays 100% like it does and will. It's only the metadata and indentification that will cease come end of year.

For many years using an "explorer" was how I played all my media. There were no such things as "libraries" and the like.

Would have been good if someone just ported the Plex app or similar to be able to sideload onto Zappiti.

They could have offered the new App for free and kept the server going for a few more years. That would have reduced some of the anger because right now used Zappiti's are not worth much....

As I understand it, the staff have been working without pay, and I guess to justify the development of the app, and the submission to app stores (costs associated with developer accounts) and to provide some sort of income, they've needed to justify this side hustle. It's not associated with Zappiti the company, but been developed to allow the devices to continue - I suspect, just speculation, without any support or blessing from the company itself.

Not justifying anything - just spitballing potential reasons.

Fingers crossed they allow current Zappiti owners to download and install their firmware.

I do feel for all current Zappiti owners, but why would this new company allow that unless they make money?

And it has to be near identical hardware throughout....

Agree they have no obligation to, but IMO it would be to their advantage.  Assuming the hardware is identical, and R.volution was spawned from the failure of Zappiti, it allows them to do a few things.  Firstly, goodwill - it enables customers who over paid purchased a Zappiti product, now left without support to continue using their devices.  Secondly, it would enable their new platform to be quickly adopted (via migration of EOL Zappiti devices), which would provide a solid user-base straight out the gate.  Given their non existent dealer network, word of mouth is going to be important, and getting slammed on social media/forums/etc ain't going to be good for business, especially in such a niche category.

I have zero confirmed information around the R.volution product, but it appears to simply be a rebranded Zappiti Neo with a new app, and probably owned by the 'left over' owners of Zappiti (conjecture).  It's very VERY improbable this was developed ground up.  So with that in mind, my guess is the firmware is identical and they've just developed a new launcher and app to suit.

So my hope is they make this available as a free 'upgrade' to existing Zappiti owners, keep improving the product and let those owners advocate for the product.... otherwise my guess is they won't be around long to make any money.

*All of the above is based on the assumption R.volution is just Zappiti rebranded.

I sincerely hope your assumption is correct.  Best wishes...

Of course it's the same, nobody else in this field had a branded NAS and that one is identical to the Zappiti one, with a different badge.
They should have renamed it Zombie.

I thought is was the NAS that got Zappiti in trouble as the film studios didn’t like the fact that you can just drop a disc in it and it rips straight to hard drive by passing encryption

I got  the R-Volution  software going on  my Zappiti machine . I was pleasantly surprised to see that it is superior to the previous Zappitti software which I thought was already the best of its type  on these machines.

Zappitti were unlucky being based in the EU with strict copyright laws  and it was the associated  legal issues that shut  them down according to the company.  Zidoo , being in China,  is out of the EU and the USA's  reach  so hasn't been affected by the same legal wranglings.

Nevertheless, if R-Volution can work on Zidoo, I would recommend it to those owners as well.  It's very slick,  fast and has a luxury look and feel about it with the high quality images and associated content.

And this software is not cloud based.  Apparently  this was a sticking point  in the legal issues facing Zappiti.

Now that the PlayerOne has been available in Australia for some months, any comments?
I've seen little in the way of reviews and comparisons of image quality and features.
The PlayerOne specifications are similar to the Dune HD Max Vision 4K.
How does the PlayerOne compare with the Zidoo UHD5000 which has a newer Realtek chipset (RTD1619BPD)?

I can partially answer some questions, having owned Zidoo and Dune but without Zappiti, R_Volution experience.

Both the PlayerOne and Max Vision 4K use the Realtek RTD1619DR while the UHD5000 uses the newer RTD1619BPD. The newer chip is faster, making the UI more responsive, updated technology with HDMI 2.1, BT5.2 and WiFi 6. For details, see this

Maybe a slightly better PQ with new chip when I did a compare of Zidoo Z9X Pro and Dune HD Real Vision 4K.

Am somewhat surprised that the Max Vision 4K is still available. Dune have switched over to the Amlogic S905X4-K media processor because of the chip embargo on Russia. To Dune's credit, they are still updating  firmware (latest is Feb 24) but Zidoo provide far better support through more frequent updates and a very active user forum.
