I see that one cannot play files directly from a portable hard drive, the files have to reside on the unit or on a networked NAS.  I have a couple of Tb of music files on a passport style drive and if I want to load a lot of the files onto my Zenith3 I going to run out of storage (it’s only got 2Tb onboard).
Which brings up the next set of questions, I broadly know what NAS are/is but I’ve never needed one, how do you add one to your home (LAN?) , what make/cost is good, what storage size should be considered (4-8Tb?) ?
Finally, is NAS worth it or simply get more on-board storage and create a back-up or two on portable drives?

Hmm. I’ve been playing directly off of a WD hard drive without importing. I haven’t done so since the last update though. I’ll try when I get home and report back

I now believe you are correct @AussieMick, Grizzly said same and I found the Sense update notes for 2.6.1 or something confirm it.

Hi there. Has anyone here had experience with the innuos pulse streamer? In particular it’s stability with the app, and sound quality against Lumin and auralic at that price point?

I need something with an aes output into my dac. And this is the only innuos product at that price that does it. Although there is no storage onboard.

thanks!

Yes, and a USB module.

I believe there will be a line of models between the Next Gen line up and current Zenith III, Zen etc! In the future?

Hi ACAUS,

I've been running the Pulse for about 3 months.

So far so good and I'm happy with the sound quality running USB into my DAC.

Sense app is fairly intuitive to use and all was fairly straight forward to set up.

I do like that there are no screens or buttons on the front fascia, just a small indicator light that shines down onto my rack.

Haven't compared against the other brands side by side, so can't comment on that.

Thanks. Do you leave it in standby when not in use, does it power itself down?

The consensus, and manufacturer recommendation I believe, is to leave Innuos components powered on 24/7. Innuos Sense is the best UI I have seen and the SQ vs other UI’s & library managers is better in my experience.

Agreed. The only time my Innuos has ever been switched off is an unexpected power cut.

Afternoon, what do you use inline for power to protect against storm/surge damage if anything?

I'm always rushing to turn things off when storms are near

I have a dedicated circuit in the fuse box for my audio gear (& TV, Soundbar) with an upgraded circuit breaker. That alone is not perfect but I run a Keces IQRP-1500 to feed power to the components and when I put a Thor protection device between the wall and the Keces the sound was restrained, almost chocked. I will look to higher end protection that does not degrade the SQ in the future but for now I still turn everything off in the case of significant electrical storms of if leaving for more that a week and accept that it will take a couple of days for the system to settle and get that last 5%.

This is outside in my fusebox, box.

Also use a couple of isotek items in the line. Might be overkill 😜

Me too, + PS Audio mains regeneration (P10) for all digital components.

I’m waiting on a Tubulus Concentus I2S Cable so I can connect the i2s module in the NG to my DS dac. I will then be able to compare i2s / usb directly and finally make a comparison.
I’ve previously made a comparison between usb and i2s using 44/16 Flac file and the cd it was ripped from and found minuscule or no difference but that was going through two very different dacs etc.
I’m currently of the opinion that I have gotten to the point where the streaming & server side of my system is at a level of no return.  The dac could be upgraded but between the DS and the Kompakt 11 the sound is very good , some playing around with cables (mostly getting to a point of using one “set”) I hope will do me.

Interested to hear the I2S & USB module comparison for sure.

Yes, Innuos have gone a strange way about implementing i2s imo as they take their USB signal and convert it to i2s - I’m not sure why they didn’t go directly i2s out but I’m hoping that their way preserves the signal the best.

(Innuos comment on their module It goes USB from the mainboard to I2S on the module and is converted at very high precision due to nature of clocks and power supply used.
The 0-7 dial accounts for the different positive/negative lines on the Bit clock and Word clock, as well as master clock frequencies and DSD channels).
The comparison I will make is ;

1) i2s module out ▶️cable▶️i2s input to DS.
2) usb port out ▶️ cable▶️PhoenixUSB Reclocker ▶️cable▶️DS USB in.
The DS internally rebuilds the start of every packet/sample of information, reclocks all inputs regardless of source/format, converts to i2s & DSD for processing before the LP filter and music eventuating so I’m unsure what the result will be.
