Further information:

Selling my KEF R3 in gloss black since they don't fit my purpose and would like to try out something new ?

I've purchased the speakers from SN member sfdoddsy in August this year which makes me the second owner but the speakers themselves are only little over a year old (September 2019).

They are in great condition except one of the speakers has a minor scratch on the outer wave guide (see picture), nothing that would affect SQ. Happy for you to audition them at my place.

Lovely things have been said about the r3's. Can't believe you're gonna let them go. I'm curious as to what didn't gel but I'll keep my beak out of it.

GLWTS

The speakers sound great in it's current position pictured but the main purpose I bought them for was for near field listening and for that they are a bit on the bright side. Was thinking about getting a pair of Buchardt S400 instead since they are apparently very warm & forgiving.

Is that so? If you haven't done so, I encourage you to play with some DSP/Eq and just drop those highs a tad.

You know, I have these huge horns in my house and if I need them to go loud and bright and fill up the whole yard I can, but then I just ask them to settle down and tamper it back with some eq and they are just so sweet.

More than likely these excellent R3's can image and set up a sound stage with a bit of flair that most speakers can't. But if all else fails, you know someone is going to be the happiest camper with these highly coveted and desired speakers.

edit 2: I see you're a klipsch man, I'm speaking from having the RF 7 iiis

Nice system, wondering what that tv cabinet is though as I am in the hunt for one haha

It's a great looking cabinet but having issues getting my AVR to fit since it doesn't allow for much depth. I also had to build the top shelf as an addition to accommodate for the center channel & integrated. All in all it worked out well for me but would definitely not recommend it ?

I haven't done any manual EQ yet but I did give Audyssey a try and did not like it at all. It filtered out most of the low end and I felt like the imaging took also a dive (same happened to my Klipsch). I'm running them in direct mode since and am very happy with the SQ in my living room, just not in my PC room which I have to admit is a very challenging room and also untreated.

Audyssey is rubbish unless you set your own curve in the app. The default curve is known to result in exactly what you experienced.
