Fangzie Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 I actually found Sullivan's cove to be fairly uninteresting and not worth the money. Personal opinion.
O.Sydney Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 I actually found Sullivan's cove to be fairly uninteresting and not worth the money. Personal opinion. fair enough, different palate different tastes was this a recent bottle or a while back? And what's your favourite thou ?
Teej Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Went from a Macallan (which was a good bottle to start me off, not too overwhelming), to an Ardberg (which initially I couldn't stand, but now love and very much enjoy).. not sure what to have next? Any recommendations?
Rockford Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Maybe check out some wood finishes Glenmorangie Sauternes http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-13992.aspx or Port finish http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-13195.aspx One of my favourites Lagavulin with PX wood finish http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-12869.aspx or you could try some chronological progressions like Glenfarclas to see how it changes 15 Y.O http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-2038.aspx 21 Y.O http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-2068.aspx 25 Y.O http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-2072.aspx or the same with Highland Park where you can really see the progression and it's only limited by how deep your pockets are :-) 12 Y.O http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-6941.aspx 18 Y.O http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-6942.aspx 21 Y.O http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-12219.aspx 25 Y.O http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-7245.aspx 30 Y.O http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-7323.aspx 40 Y.O http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-8333.aspx 50 Y.O (bargain at $14,000 a bottle lol) http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/selection/highlandpark50/
gypr1961 Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 If anyone likes the lighter whiskies like glenmorangie you owe it to yourself to try aberlour abundah, absolutely georgeous. I don't normally put water in my whiskey but the tiniest splash brings this one alive. "Available from your friendly local Dan murphys"
davidsss Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 This thread is going to be the ruin of me. Many threads are the ruin of me. DS
Super Mustud Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Many threads are the ruin of me.DS Whisky and latte mixes well. So I am told.
davidsss Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Wouldn't want to mix a decent drink like whisky with Nespresso though. DS
Catostylus Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Okay. Fair question. I would suggest filtered tap water, probably about 50% volume of water for the amount of whisky. Try that and adjust to personal taste. It will depend on the particular whisky, and even mood, time of day, etc, etc. I use water out of my Brita filter jug that lives in the refrigerator. Some would argue for room temperature water but I think that's extreme. But NO ice.

My preference WHEN I use water is about 20% water, room temperature. But its all good.
Jake Posted March 5, 2012 Author Posted March 5, 2012 I'm not averse to a little ice, but would usually go with SM's method roughly. Not this year of course, going dry for 2012.
Super Mustud Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I'm not averse to a little ice, but would usually go with SM's method roughly. Not this year of course, going dry for 2012. I had a month off earlier this year. Might have another one some time....
Jake Posted March 5, 2012 Author Posted March 5, 2012 I had a month off earlier this year. Might have another one some time.... It's been easy so far. The problem will be the work junkets away, when we are expected to make best use of the corporation's generosity
Catostylus Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I had a month off earlier this year. Might have another one some time.... Ah yes. I remember. Your posts then were even less sensible than usual. I would very much suggest you don't. I trust you to recognise good advice when you receive it.
O.Sydney Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I've never tried good whisky with water (I think it will be watering down the flavour and intensity) or am I missing something in the subtlety area ? Never ice, for me if the whisky is too cold it becomes bland
Catostylus Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I know it's counter-intuitive, but adding a little water to whisky releases a lot of its aromatics. Try it and see.
Fangzie Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 was this a recent bottle or a while back? And what's your favourite thou ? I have to admit this was a few years ago now...maybe 5 or 6? And in all fairness, my favourite whiskys are generally Islays.
Catostylus Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 ....my favourite whiskys are generally Islays. You're not Robinson Crusoe.
houdinifangs Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 I believe it is now excellent scotch weather in Melbourne!
