Hifigoose Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 I have a first world problem. I am using Focal Clears out of a Schiit Asgard 3 headphone amp. The standard Focal cable is 3M long. My preferred listening position (ie my armchair) is ~4M from the amp, and thus out of reach. A 5M cable would solve the problem, but as best as I can determine, after-market headphone cables max out at 3M. I presume this is due to signal degradation. Anyone here have experience with longer cables? Should I invest in a custom-made 5M option, or would this reduce my listening experience to something akin to wireless Bluetooth. Not to mention offending the Focal Gods Thanks, Rohan.
mickeyjuiceman Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 My Focal Elear cable feels like it's about 20m long
Niktech Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 (edited) It is an unbalanced cable, but the Grado Prestige extension cable is 4.57 metres. I use it with a pair of Shure 1540 closed back headphones. I've not tried it with my Clears as I use balanced, but I can hear no noticeable difference between it and a 1.5 metre cable. The cable is advertised as not degrading sound. Out of stock, but here it is pictured: https://www.amazon.com.au/Grado-Extension-Cable-4-57m-Headphone/dp/B00WC4B4JI Edited January 7, 2021 by Niktech 1

Batty Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 AKG Q701 comes standard with 3m and 6m cables, so I guess 5m would be fine. 1
Bengineer Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 Should be fine. Mic cable is in majority of these cables anyway, and they happily run 5m, 10m.
