Edit: Price revision

Further information:

All on-board Cirrus Logic DACs are work perfectly, all DSPs work perfectly, all sound codecs work perfectly, I have the original manuals, setup mics, antennas and remote works without issues.

However like with classic Cambridge Audio fashion, the HDMI board is temperamental and sometimes will handshake, sometimes it won’t handshake. This also impacts on the On-Screen Display as that also is not displaying on HDMI out, S-Video out nor Composite out, limiting you to calibrate your speakers & HDMI assignments. Scrolling the online world, a lot of people have found the simple fix for this is to reset the receiver, which I haven’t tried. If it doesn’t work, and if you are in VIC, you can make a trip down to JLS Electronics in Doncaster and they do these repairs eyes shut (as they are a Cambridge Audio repairer).

For me, I have not bothered as my TV has been the workaround (4 HDMI inputs and a Digital Out module that remarkably does Dolby & DTS pass-through. I don’t use the HD Master codecs either, and I have been utilising a HDMI splitter to my projector).

If you are looking for a used receiver without the need for a reliable HDMI capability, or interested in getting the board repaired, this would serve you well easily for the next 5 years with 7 x 100w @ 8ohms.

If you are looking for a used integrated amplifier, this bad boy needs to be on your list, as it’s sleeper amp with 2 x 120w @ 8ohms, and around 2 x 180w minimum @ 4 ohms from the torodial beauty . It feeds power to most floorstanding inefficient speakers with ease on 2ch mode, and all my Dynaudios sing very well with this. Its remarkable Cambridge Audio built a receiver with such strong stereo capabilities only to fail in epic fashion in the HDMI arena.

CA 650R vs Marantz PM-8006: As I own both, I have done a lot of critical listening between these two units. Yes the Marantz is very detailed but at 2.5 to 3 times the cost on the used market, and 5 times the cost of buying the Marantz new at $3,000. What the 650R lacks in detail, it makes up for in power & low end, filling the room with ease. I have been powering the 650R on 2ch listening with Dynaudio Focus 110, Dynaudio DM 3/7, B&W 603 S3, B&W 602 S3, B&W 601 S3, B&W 600 S3, JBL Northridge E80, JBL Northridge E90 and finally the JBL XTi 90. I have found the 650R compliments the Dynaudio Focus & DM and JBL XTi 90 the best – funnily all 3 speaker pairs are made in Denmark.

Auditioning: Not preferred and you have my guarantee it's all working with exception of the HDMI troubleshooting. If really required, mask, sanitiser and distancing on entry required, and they will be paired with Dynaudio Focus 110, Pioneer DV-989AVi via 2ch out or digital out (optical or coaxial), QED Qunex Reference 2ch or digital interconnects & QED Silver Anniversary XT speaker cables.

Yeah the 110s are magic :)

Yup and they are soo hard to find these days too!

I purchased mine 3rd hand on this forum 10 years ago, and the classified thread lasted 10 minutes before I snapped them up.
Everytime I use these 650R’s with the Focus 110’s, guests always comment why did I turn on the subwoofer ?

Yeah I've only had mine for about a year but I've tried a few in the process (SF, proac 1sc,  B+W CD1SE and lately the Focus 140).  I think ill be keeping the 110 :) it's running on Halcro MC20 amp and Elekit 8500 pre-amp kit.   Btw, I also owned the 650R and still have it sitting around.  It's surprisingly good for stereo listening.

Good luck with the sale.
