Dazz Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Hi All. I did post some time ago on suggestions for some new floor standing speakers. I did have to reduce the amount i could spend as my old fridge finally gave up the ghost and had to get a new one. Thanks to all that made recommendations but i have finally settled for the SVS Prime Pinnacles. Got then delivered yesterday which was very quick considering i ordered then last Friday from Sydney (i'm in Adelaide). I got the gloss black version. Looks very nice and even my wife thought they looked good! Did some listening yesterday afternoon with no sub and pure direct. Bass is excellent with great extension and the mids and highs were nice and crisp. The reviews i had read did say the top end was a little bit recessed but i certainly didn't think that was the case. They sounded terrific just listening to them in 2 channel mode. I have attached a few pictures. Cheers 4
anandpkumar Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Fantastic.......congratulations on the new speakers! Noticed that you are using a Marantz AVR to drive the speakers. If you are going to use the speakers mostly for 2 channel audio, might be worth looking for a dedicated 2 channel amplifier. Even a good quality entry level one (or buy used to save some money) will sound much better than the AVR in 2 channel. You can look for an amplifier with HT bypass which will allow the speakers to be used both with the amplifier for 2 channel and with the AVR for multi-channel 2
mattd2308 Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Congratulations, nothing better than getting a piece of new Hifi equipment. Just a question, did it come with spikes, just may help with a bit of sturdiness, and most likely will improve sound. They certainly look the business. As already stated, when funds permit, feed them a dedicated 2 channel amp, (with some grunt) it will sound as though a veil has been lifted, and you'll go "gee whiz, that sounds even better"....!!! 1
blakey72 Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 They look great @Dazz, big beasts! Remember that they will take 50-100 hours of play time before they sound their best. 1

Dazz Posted February 10, 2021 Author Posted February 10, 2021 Hi all. Well done spotting it. Yes i am using a Rotel RB-1552 power amp. Its rated at 120W/Ch, class A/B. I am using this to drive my new speakers. I use the Marantz (Model SR6003) to drive my centre speaker and rears. My next upgrade will be the AVR. I also recently upgraded the centre speaker to an SVS prime. Pic below. Been having fun playing around with my AVR settings to get the best sound for both 2 channel and surround for movies. I am very happy with the bass on these speakers and I have cracked these babies up and they still want more. One of my fav clips on YouTube is Tokyo Groove Jyoshi - what is hip featuring Juna Sarita on bass. That woman is an amazing bassist and playing that through the new speakers just sounds awesome. 2
