just sat infront of the pc to do a few things and check in on SnA and noticed Spotify asked me if I wanted to listen to Spotify Stations.  It took to me to  web player and its basically artist radio but on its own webplayer where you can store your fav stations from artist radio.  Its also got an app that is pink in colour as opposed to green.

Have to say, now i think about it, I'm a big fan the various artist radios that Spotify does, particularly the Aussies artists. This is compared to their genres groups which i feel pipe unfamiliar American junk thats probably paid to be the play list

Just noticed my volumio player says 44/16 when streaming from phone to raspberry pi via Spotify connect.  I’m quite sure it said 320 a few weeks ago. I suspect  volumio has updated software and is incorrectly reading as 44/16. But who knows?

Does anyone understand the likelihood of Spotify Hifi working through Microrendo?

I think you might be confusing sample rate with bit depth and bit rate. Spotify has always been 44/16

I just signed up for the Spotify Premium free trial (3mths), hoping to see the Spotify Hi-fi tier playing. So far only 320kps/16 bit is showing when playing in Volumio. The apps on the iPhone and PC don't show stream quality.

@Kasman @blybo or others - anyone still seeing 44/16 from Spotify?

Just checked and yes. I played the same song as you did and it says 44/16.
I actually doubt Spotify is now lossless and this is perhaps a software issue showing 44/16 in preparation for lossless.

I haven’t done an a/b comparison with tidal for sound quality.

And a further check. When I navigate Spotify via volumio it says 320kbps and when I use the Spotify app and send Spotify connect to my volumio it says 44/16.

Did you guys read what chi guru posted above?

Yes. I understand the basics behind bit rate, depth and sample rate. But my point is that the info displayed has changed. 320kbps suggests it is compressed and 44/16 suggests it is not compressed (16 x 44.1 x 2 = 1411kbps > 320kbps).

I've just received the free trial message for "lossless" Spotify. I'm guessing an A/B test of the existing Spotify vs lossless is difficult-to-impossible but will at least get to compare it with my Tidal service. I'll share my findings here.

Would be interested to hear others' finding on this as well, so please share if you can!

Unreal.

Hopefully I get that message too.

Look forward to your thoughts, for me it's as much about Spotify and it's suggestions and no mqa.

I've got qobuz for hires but library depth and feature's a win with Spotify, the cd quality is a massive bonus imo

Bugger bugger bugger. Sorry folks for the bad lead, I quickly scanned an email from Spotify earlier in the week thinking it was for the hi-res service, when in fact it was a "free trial offer" for their Premium service (a dud offer I wasn't eligible for anyway, as I'm already a Premium Spotify member).

I did take the opportunity to do a comparison of music from my current Spotify account versus my Tidal account, using some tracks I'm familiar with - and was left in no doubt I'm not getting any early "Spotify hifi" service! The Tidal service was more nuanced and had a more natural soundscape. So for now at least Tidal remains my preferred music streaming service.

If I get any Spotify hifi preview I'll share it here.

Curse you! I’ve been waiting for the free lossless trial email you promised me. Talk about deflating. 😂

I favoured Spotify for other reasons.

But one other thing noticeable for me between Spotify Premium and FLAC etc is that the imaging is muddied compared to FLAC and often doesn't go as wide beyond the speakers or wrap around me as much. I switch off all the normalise volume etc.

that indicates to me that your Spotify is lossy. Spotify Connect currently shows as 44/16 on my Auralic Vega G2.1 but there doesn’t seem to be any indication of bitrate. Doesn’t seem to be any indication in logos etc that it’s Hifi yet. Will listen a bit more today to form a view

Correct. Spotify Premium is lossy.

So I am currently streaming Spotify on my Linn DS, and the front display is saying 16/44.1 - 1411kbps PCM.

Has Spotify started streaming lossless without officially launching?

Could be this:

The time for Spotify HiFi is drawing nigh – at least, according to some Redditors who have discovered that they can access the lossless streaming service for a few seconds at a time thanks to a glitch in the app.

It looks like Spotify HiFi could launch very soon, as a video that seems to show a welcome tour of the new streaming tier has been leaked online.

It was posted by Reddit user Nickx000x with the caption 'Here's a sneak peek at the upcoming HiFi onboarding process from modifying the app', and appears to give prospective HiFi users a backstage tour of the service:

No chance. Makes no business sense!

Bean counters would have said, now we have XXmillion subscribers, how do we make more money? Easier to raise prices or offer a higher tier to existing base, rather than spending more money gaining more market share (new customers). I'd say they've got just about as many customers as they can get - unless new developing countries get on board.

I'd love to be wrong though!
