Okay big moment for me, I have created a Spotify account, more out of curiosity than anything, but perhaps also has a means of finding new music. I’m not really set up for streaming so plan will be to play via Bluetooth to my Michi x5 amp.

If you have nice equipment like that don't waste your time with Spotify or bluetoothing.

the more recent BT codecs support CD quality transmission, if you believe the literature... either way it's not going to be the bottleneck. And even with Spotify premium, most people aren't getting into it to be blown away by SQ

Uh oh. You’ve joined the head scratching party, wondering how on earth the song you just had in your head suddenly appeared in a suggested playlist…

Stock up on foil. 😂

anyone else find this interesting when looking into the "about' section (way down the bottom) on an artist's profile? I might be a clue into said "voodoo magic."  I'm often surprises to see the AU cities listed in the mix for obscure acts or when trying stay clear of the many mainstream commercial over-pushed "artists"

IP addresses / geolocation is not very accurate these days, which is what they would be using to determine listener locations. With the rise of VPNs, Melbourne and Sydney are two frequent choices for people from inside and outside of Australia.

I hadn't realised the BT had lifted its game.

Hehe. For the most part, my VPN is set to Sydney.  When Streaming the European cycling racing calendar I’m in Milan, Italy. 😁

I must get at least one email a week from a member here complaining that they're only seeing the US version of the site and/or banners. I tell them to try turning their VPN off or setting it to somewhere in AU - problem magically goes away! :)

I'm part of a family plan for Spotify Premium. I put some rain sounds on earlier today and there were advertisements which played before the track started. I thought Premium accounts were supposed to be ad free. 🤨

It’s unfortunate that happened. Let’s hope it’s not going to be a thing.
Personally, I haven’t heard an ad since I subscribed.

I mentioned this to my wife when you posted this and told her to keep an ear out if it occurred.

Today she has just told me that during podcasts she is has started getting advertisements, not paid ads during the podcast that are like sponsors but actual ads for other podcasts and ironically she mentioned one ad was apple music!

i havent experienced it with any music yet, i have asked her to log out and log back in and also clear her cache, see if that resets a few things

They don't have a problem.

They are happy to make truckloads of money doing exactly what they do now, so from their point of view (not mine), it is a case of "if it ain't broke ,don't fix it "

they would likely have the data on leakage across to those players that are hi-fi or recently rolled  it out

would they gain additional subscribers off Tidal, Qobuz, etc. ?? probably not or it's an immaterial amount. are they losing subscribers? maybe not if the average punter don't have the ears or system to tell the difference and give up on learning the new interface.

100% correct.

As audiophiles we (wrongly ) assume that the market for the highest possible fidelity is essential, but the vast majority of people using Spotify are using it via headphones on a mobile or streaming to  Bluetooth speaker/s.

I asked my son(who has never purchased physical media in his life,) what his friends and colleagues use for music at a BBQ,  a party or a GTG or just everyday life and he told me that a phone-to-Bluetooth replay system for music was virtually unanimous.

Fidelity to this demographic is not the important issue, it is just listening to music casually, with a wide choice of music with an easy to use interface.

all this is probably correct regards to the younger generation not really concerned about streaming quality but for those of us that do it would be nice if Spotify gave us the option to choose a hifi tier even if it means paying a bit more than the normal premium subscription.

totally agree

or just stop with promises they don't keep! grrrr!!

I guess they figured $100M was better spent on exclusive rights to pods casts...

I certainly cannot disagree with you Ray but.......people such as the vast majority on here are a very small percentage of the Spotify subscriber base.

Audiophiles are not yet extinct but their demise is definitely mid term future.

The irony is that music has never been more popular, it is just the way it is delivered and "consumed" that is changing.

Then there is the fact that Spotify pay artists far less than, say Qobus, which might mean some of us would stay with our current service even if Spotify HiFi was released.
