I'd go so far as to say that it would compete with DAC's 3-4x the price which are themselves giant killers. The $10k Denafrips Terminator Springs to mind.

The Abbas units however will improve significantly as you improve the signal they're fed and isolate from electrical noise on the input so there are more upgrades and tweaks should you wish to chase them.  ;)

Have any of the Abbas owners here tried an E182CC in the output stage? Interesting comments on the dynamics. Definitely inline with my experience.

From memory @xlr8or had the tung sol 5687 as the pick.

Yep followed his advice on this. Too happy listening now to compare (lazy i know)

I know how you feel. I have a few upgrades ready to go but I am getting so much out of the system as is I end up spending my spare time listening rather than tinkering.

That's always a good sign. More time spent listening rather than tinkering with upgrades is a rare situation for audiophiles, IMO. Sort of begs the question as to what the ultimate aim truly is....

Okay so may have been a little keen in my response to your comment,  and have gone back to check. I couldn't find black ladder plate and purchased. a  tung sol 5687 top D getter at the time to try.

Vintage unknown ? Not as early as those ribbed plates.  I could still be needing to try this,  but they do look expensive and there might be others to try.

Did find the other 2 of Kirk's recommendations more easily and really enjoying them.

So did you find some black ribbed plates ?

The horseshoe getters are highly likely 1953 production. You can find the early vertical frame getters circa 1948 to 1951 I posted above for about $50-100 each.

Thank you the one i have doesnt sound bad, but from what i have read and indeed from your self the earlier one is the one to get. The price is encouraging so will keep looking.

Yes - the ones you have are certainly no slouch. Very very good tubes. The vertical getters do come up as singles on eBay USA from time to time. So yeah - if any come up just keep hoarding. 🙂

I disappeared down the 5687 rabbit hole for a bit last night. Certainly a lot of discussion online of the various types. I got to getter me some more.

The 5687 / E182CC are interchangeable in output stage for the 4.1. Curious if this also applies to my Abbas phono which also has 5687 as output tube.

Just confirming the E182CC/7119 and 6900 can substitute the 5687, but IMHO the 5687 is still king. I've tried PW D getter E182CC's and Bendix 6900's. The 1948-1951 Tung-Sol 5687's still come out on top.

Ah, gotcha. Not my 2.2SE.

What is the spec on the 2.2SE?

You could be in the search also.

Yep I would check cause looks like on Abbas's site the 2.2SE has a 5687/ EZ35 output stage.

Can you please zoom in a little more so we can see the spacing between the grid wires? 🤭

Maybe you should do a side by side before making comments like this. I have the termi dac 1 and the difference to other quality dacs i have trialled and owned was huge, a bigger improvement in sound quality that i've ever heard. Not subtle.

Happy to compare if someone wants to bring their Terminator over. No problem doing that at all. I won’t be splashing the cash for one though just to compare. I’ve certainly heard the same said of the Terminator, yet somehow I think an MSB might just better it. Go figure right?
