kiwimeat Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 After years of reliable and hassle free service, the remote control for my BDP-105 has stopped working .... mostly (see below). It was working about 10 days ago. I used it briefly yesterday and noticed a sort of stutter but didn't think anything of it at the time. Now it is not sending any commands, nor is the backlight coming on. I've swapped out the batteries for freshly charged AA's and also tested in other remotes. Except if I leave it without batteries for a few hours, it might work (backlight comes on, will power on 105) briefly when batteries are inserted and then it just stops again. But even this is not consistent. I know I can drive it with my universal remote but I do like the Oppo remote and want to have it working. Any suggestions welcome.
rockeater Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 It would appear that there was a liquid spilled inside which shorts out batteries and discharges them. I would open it up and clean the board with isopropyl alcohol and use something milder for the buttons (like Windex). I made a couple of you tube videos about remote fixing and if you are unfamiliar with the task, I recommend them. The first is on opening a remote and second is on actual repair. Hope it helps 3
Addicted to music Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 I have never used the remote for the 105. It comes with a wireless dongle that you plug into one of the USB port and if you have WiFi you download the app on a phone or a tablet, especially if you have IOS devices, in the app the remote control is there with all the buttons. Works a treat. 2

A bit of gentle dust removal, followed by cleaning with isopropyl alcohol seems to have done the trick. 17 hours ago, Addicted to music said: I have never used the remote for the 105. chobochobo Posted Sunday at 06:21 AM Posted Sunday at 06:21 AM I haven't used my BDP103D for ages, but I thought I'd just stick a CD into it for a spin having acquired some recently from the auction site. The remote control was stored with no batteries, so I put in fresh batteries but it didn't seem to work. After testing other batteries, I found that the remote seemed to have some life in it but it would only change the resolution, nothing else. Anyone else had this problem please? Oppo media app on my android doesn't detect the bdp anymore (I suspect that it is for my UDP20x out in the living room that is also being ignored). Amazon store doesn't show Oppo media store anymore. Apparently it's on the Apple store but I have no iOS devices. Question please: can I navigate the menu without the remote please? The buttons on the front don't seem to do this.
chobochobo Posted Sunday at 08:28 AM Posted Sunday at 08:28 AM Okay, answering my own question. I found a small bit of corrosion at one terminal even though batteries were not left in, so perhaps something from before. I decided to open up and found some corrosion of the circuit board at the bottom end, on both sides. Cleaned it up with alcohol. Not sure what's been permanently damaged. Put it back together and it seems to be working. Contemplating one of these replacement remotes from Am*zon but it's probably not worth it. 1
