Spotify is a nice platform but the sound is mush and no connectivity through the Node 2i App. Tidal sounded to me a bit like the sound had been distorted. I am using Deezer Hi Fi which has a great sound and easy searching. I have only been streaming for a few months just to see whether it was worth having. This means I was impatient to get going and probably did not give Spotify and Tidal an adequate trial. I also use Idagio for classical music. My main system is Audio Research pre andpower with a RP10 TT and Esoteric CDP through ribbon speakers and as good as the sound I get is, I have no complaints about the Node 2i through an old Krell KAV 300 to old Kantu 6 speakers. Idfgio is very reasonable at about $15 per month but Deezer is $25. I set up a Spotify subscription so I can check their rumured hi fi offering later this month which may be cheaper and if quality equals Deezer, might make a change tempting, although once you get comfortable with a service it is a pity to drop it and I probably will not ind paying a premium for something I like. 1

zeffy Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 I signed up for the 3 month trial for Deezer Hifi - have to say i'm impressed with the quality so far, but selection isn't as wide as Spotify. Saying that, I just signed up for the Qobuz free month and for now, find that Deezer has a bigger selection and slightly better sound quality than Qobuz, which is a surprise. May just be my old ears and ***** song selections

It sounds like Qobuz might not have the Hi-Res audio files streaming on Australian accounts yet? It’s odd because previously people have described Qobuz as having the best sound quality of all... hmm

The High Res selection is not as extensive as I expected. For my sound comparison, I just picked two similar tracks (not necessarily flagged High Res) from both services and switched between them. Deezer is also having a 3 month free trial at the moment... and so far so have been on the 4 month Tidal trial... if I space it correctly maybe I will never have to pay 1
kukynas Posted April 21, 2021 Posted April 21, 2021 after cancelling Tidal (MQA) subscription and lack of Qobuz support in my country I'm thinking to subscribe to Deezer Hifi, if all goes well and Deezer also introduce Hifi family plan I might even cancel my Spotify family account and use just one service, so far I've heard mainly positive reviews about Deezer and that it's very close to Spotify in terms of functionality and usability, can you guys confirm? cheers...
clappy Posted April 23, 2021 Posted April 23, 2021 Hi, I subscribed to Deezer Premium (via Sonos) last year but ran into issues where it kept telling me I had skipped too many songs and blocked my ability to skip songs for a period of time. Googled it and there did not appear to be a fix. Has anyone encountered this or aware of the issue being resolved. It is the only reason I left Deezer and I am not enjoying youtube music - was a fan of Google play music. Cheers, Geoff

kukynas Posted April 23, 2021 Posted April 23, 2021 if I understood correctly skipping is limited to 150 songs per hour in "flow" and they are working on some new sdk to eliminate it completely but no timeframe as yet... I usually skip between 30-50 songs per hour while listening to Spotify weekly discovery or other new play lists so shouldn't be an issue for me if that's the only limitation
IanRM Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 Also using Deezer Hifi. I find the sound quality is sufficient for my needs and their library is pretty extensive. I like their flow algorithm and the playlist it generates. The iOS app also works well in CarPlay and sounds great in the car. I flirted with the idea of a hires streamer and tidal/qobuzz, but continue to use a sonos port with 2 channel system as I have sonos speakers in bedroom and study, and the sonos app is so easy to use.
Dave's Addiction Posted April 25, 2021 Posted April 25, 2021 I also use Deezer. I find more artists I like especially some rare Australian stuff which isn't on the others. I also like Flow. I have noticed that when occasionally my wifi is a bit on the dogy side it will limit the amount of songs I skip. This is when using the Node 2i. But other than this I have never had a problem.

Yeah? yeah, that’s what I hope for but no info about release date, till then I need something to replace my Tidal

Zakintosh Posted April 25, 2021 Posted April 25, 2021 I have done side-by-side listening to TIDAL HiFi vs Deezer HiFi, here are my observations. 1. sound quality not as good as TIDAL, especially annoying was the "uncompressing boost" which made everything more loud in Deezer, apparently at the cost of decreasing dynamic range. TIDAL sounded as real as the record itself, passing the varied levels of the record on. This will affect real HIFI home listeners but will probably please those on the go with noise in surroundings. 2. Library width is excellent, including lots of European produce. Not so with TIDAL which seems to know about English language music but not so much about others (rest of the world, as they say in US) 3. Decoding quality and quantisation noise seemed higher than TIDAL. This is different to the actual source quality, I am talking about how well the bits are layed over your output stream, which will likely not match the source. E.g. my DAC is set to 24x192 but songs source will vary. TIDAL is better, and so is Spotify which is a great surprise for those who swear by Spotify. They must be using MS Groove code and know-how, those guys were best for stream reencoding. Deezer was not so great. 4. Suggestion algorithms and logic were pretty darn good and "unorthodox". On fee occasions D has surprised me with how well it knows the fashion and trends in Europe, this must be due to many users using it there. 5. Buffering / pauses / skips / playback issues. Nothing better than D in Australia. I have had Spotify and Tidal both hiccup, stall, spin circles, pause etc but never with Deezer. It is lightning fast, they must be using local servers, it is awesome and you do not feel being remote to the rest of the world being in Australia. Overall, a worthy contender which I could go back to, if they improve the in-to-out performance and include a no-boost volume option. Letting the user system do reencoding is a bad choice, I feel.
zeffy Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 I may be the odd one out, but I may stick with Deezer and not go with Qobuz: I struggle to hear much of a difference between the two; ears made of stone or old age maybe Deezer's library is more complete than Qobuz - a significant number of tracks / albums that I have on Deezer are just not on Qobuz Their song recommendations / flows are actually pretty good Comparatively cheaper monthly fees If I can't identify huge differences in an A-B test between the quality of the two, then for me the larger library of songs I enjoy is going to come in as a major deciding factor, along with being able to discover new talent / music at a considerably cheaper cost. I look forward to see what Spotify Hifi brings to the table. 1

Deezer does seem to have a bit more music than Qobuz but it’s integration with my Bluesound player is the worst so far. Favourite Artists are displayed in a completely random order and tracks do not show what quality they are until you press play on them. Sound quality of HiFi quality tracks on Deezer also don’t sound as clear to me as the Hi-res equivalent on Qobuz. I currently have Tidal, Qobuz and Deezer active all at the same time.. until middle of May when the free trials for Tidal and Qobuz end. So far Qobuz seems to have the best sound quality, but missing some artists compared to the other two services. Tough call at the end of the day... but I am leaning toward Qobuz... it has been the only one to make me go Wow with the clarity of instruments in music... 1
