Recently, i have been comparing Qobuz and Tidal, in app and via Roon. I found Qobuz was the clear winner on SQ. One thing i have been trialling the last few days is Qobuz Hi Res streamed (e.g. via Roon) vs purchased and downloaded onto an SD card.

I am finding a major uplift in SQ when downloaded to an SD and played back through the same equipment. Are others finding this to be true also?

Yes I agree , some songs more than others.
Cheers Paul.

Yep me too - being able to stream or get an album into your offline library to listen first then pay to download if you like the album and want a higher SQ version to access permanently is an absolute winner for Qobuz. It thrashes Tidal in this respect. 😀

I think it would be good if Qobuz listed the Dynamic Range of the Albums

they sell. Thanks Paul

I recently received a Customer Survey from Qobuz and I did

mention this as a recommendation. I use a website called

dr.loudness- wars.info for checking out DR of Album’s before buying.

Cheers Paul.

Does it help guide you re: Qobuz choices?

Also:

when buying a Qobuz album, is there any choice or are all copies of, for example, Dire Straits' "Making Movies" on Qobuz exactly the same?

I would pay to be able to download a close-to-original-tape version with greater DR, as you say.

To a certain extent ,as Qobuz generally list an Album’s year and label.

But the point is you really don’t know what the SQ will be like.
With the DR site you can get more info on what your getting.

Thanks.

Thanks, pcking.

So you go to Qobuz, see what they got, and then go to dr.loudness wars to check the DR?

And if DR is poor, what do you do then?

I used to have a copy on tape, played it on my 1982 Sanyo boombox.

For about five years, the first few seconds of Romeo and Juliet were actually my friend saying "Shiiiiit!" as he reached for the Stop button, as I had just accidentally pressed "Record and Play", and was erasing our most precious song....

New to this thread so not sure if this has been asked/answered…

With new releases each week I get 15-20 albums to check out. I assume there are a lot more releases so is there a way of adjusting what is listed or is it an algorithm that does the selection?

Using the Qobuz app or through Roon?

@Hydrology through roon

On my desktop I get a row of five new releases, with a right arrow just above the fifth, this will scroll to another five, then another. If I want to see more New Release, there is a "More" button (just to the right of the arrow)

Ive attached a picture - its very important you use it for reference.... 😉

With regard to Pete Gardeners question I don’t think there is . You can apply filters that limit the genres shown and that may show you more results for the genres you are interested in but not sure. It is imho, one of the weakness of qobuz. What I normally do is that I also subscribe to deezer which has a much better listing of new releases. Mostly I’m content to listen to deezer which is cd quality but if I particularly like a new release than I search qobuz to see if it has a hires copy.

Do you trust the Dynamic Range data that you get from Roon about discs you have in your ripped library?

Roon says I have a couple of discs with a DR of 5, which seems unlikely?
