@frankn are you trying to ‘stream’ from the Qobuz download store or from the app or from a streamer … when you’re in the download store and hit play on a track it just plays a sample - download the app if you haven’t already and it should then play on your device, if accessing from a streamer that is Qobuz compatible there will be a link in the UI (you will need to log in the first time I think)

Not sure of answers to that. Thank you.
ill check again tomorrow and get back to you.

What offer was that - do you have a link?

Have you been with Qobuz before?

It was an offer I think I saw here in SNA
No,  I have not previously been signed up to anything from Qobuz.

Its hard to know whats going on without more info. Have you looked at your account status. Has you free offer run its course and expired?

It was an offer via Frank Prowse HiFi.
2 months free access. Only offered from September 22nd so it shouldn’t have expired yet.

This info is on the FP HiFi page:

Frank Prowse Hi-Fi sales consultant Mark Hyland says “It has always been our mantra at Frank Prowse Hi-Fi to offer the best musical experience we can for our clients, be it of analogue or digital origin. By partnering with Qobuz we can ensure our clients a consistent level of streaming music from an established company who shares our view on quality audio. In addition, for those who don’t wish to be tethered to the internet for their musical enjoyment, Qobuz have one of the biggest and best music download stores in the industry, allowing users to purchase the music they love.”

We are currently offering two-month Qobuz Studio trials and offer an extensive array of Qobuz-compatible streaming products in-store.

Any issues with the trial are (understandably)  to be taken up with Qobuz, not FP.

I’m on a one month trial and really enjoying the sound. The only minor annoyance is that occasionally a song will ship to the next track.

Is there any way to fix this?

Posted

I noticed several songs on some albums that only play a sample of a particular song and I believe it has something to do with licensing agreements. I guess you could be unlucky when everything you want to play falls into this category. An example is have a look a album xoxo by Jeon somi and you will see two songs that only play a sample. I think these two songs were written and produced by a particular person whereas the rest of the album was produced by someone else but that’s only a guess.

I think the 2 month trial has fallen over, or I didn’t set it up correctly. It’s been almost a month and now all I’m allowed to access are samples of tracks. Logging out and back in, or deleting the app and downloading again also hasn’t fixed.
If I just want to pay the yearly fee and get going with the service will paying now cause confusion with the “trial” or not?

Hey @frankn I started with a trial (through Qobuz directly) and signed up for a year of the Sublime membership a week after I started the trial ... no problem at all - Sublime gets you discounted prices when buying some tracks or albums to download in hi-res - Enjoy 😀

Hey Audio Braiztrust

I've tried most if not all streaming services and Qobuz is clearly the best of the bunch. Trouble is with the fall of the Aussie dollar, it's now a very exspensive option. Current exchange rates make it $320 a year, when on top of Roon, certainly makes it even more costly. Any tips on how to minimise the cost. At this stage I think the only option is to pay monthly untill the exchange rate becomes more favourable.

Cheers

A single Sublime plan is AUD 249.99/yr,

A single studio plan is AUD 199.99/yr.
Both single payment.

A family plan (up to 6 ppl) is less than AUD 320/yr.

So those prices are in Australian $, usually the price would say AUD$199.

As it doesn't, but lists at $199, I assumed it was in American $

So you've subscibed to a plan "frankn" and been charged in Aussie$ at said rates

Not querying you, but could anyone else confirm this as I'm happy at $199

Confirm the pricing on the local (whichever local) instance of the qobuz website is in currency that matches the locale in the URL: check the NZ pricing at https://www.qobuz.com/nz-en/discover

vs AU pricing here https://www.qobuz.com/au-en/discover . You can see the actual amount is different in each case.

Thanks for the confirmation. I must admit , it's the 1st time I've not seen the AUD bit on an international site, but that's great news. Thanks El Tel and Frankn for the input

I’m in the UK and use the Qobuz Studio Plan which is £12.99 GBP per month. (Which is presently, $23.45 AUD per month).

We use it in a number of ways;

  • Via the Linn App as we have a Linn Klimax DS3 / Katalyst streamer into the main system (Ethernet)
  • On the iPhones and iPads to a Bluetooth speaker whilst travelling(Wi-Fi)
  • From my PC running Linux to my office Hi-Fi system (Ethernet)

Chose Qobuz because we like Jazz and they reputedly have the largest number of Jazz tracks and the most at Hi-Res.

I have found the platform to be very stable, whichever way we use it with no drop outs at all.

One other thing we like, is their weekly updates, which we get on a Saturday morning. In particular, their “Panorama” articles which are very good and informative, plus suggested listening playlists within our genre of Jazz.

So far we have been very pleased with our streaming experience.

Yes I did subscribe and can confirm they are in AUD.

And then the unspoken question:

What is it actually worth to be a Qobuz subscriber? (what am I therefore willing to pay for a sub?)

With the multiple audio benefits, and the high quality of service and delivery, I am quite willing to pay these amounts; I have paid this kind of money for a single night out without a qualm.

Qobuz has revolutionised my present-day listening--and appreciation of digital audio generally.

I happen to think that Qobuz is a bargain.

Just an update on this - we have had quite a few trial users running with the 2 month trial and no issues thus far. The 2 month trial should give all users the full STUDIO experience. The promo code that Qobuz gave us is really just a way for them to track where the potential subscriber has come from, thus is no different from signing up direct.

What the heck is this? I've never seen this before. Qobuz is playing an MQA file. This randomly came up in roon radio and it's definitely coming from Qobuz and is MQA.

To answer my own question, it appears the 2L brand distribute their material in MQA format.

I was listening yesterday to Qobuz Top Albums playlist and I was impressed by the quality of the music. Not every track, but overall great sounding.
I haven’t yet got much into streaming but I’m coming round to it just to hearing just music without the hassle of getting up, changing a disc, LP while I’m doing something else. And it cuts out the chatter from radio if I’m not in the mood.

I have subscribed to Qobuz for years (even back in the bad old days when you needed a VPN).

The Classical and Jazz range is amazing, I also love going into the World section and listening to stuff I never would.have in a million years previously.

I just spent all afternoon listening to the 2022 24/192 remaster of Wagner's Das Rheingold, sounds so much better than my old 24/48 blurays....I was thinking of buying the SACD re-releases at $120, but really do I need to?

I have also been playing the first two tracks of the Rings of Power soundtrack (Main Title and Where the Shadows Lie) as demoes for my new Primaluma Evo 300 tube amps, thunderous and apocalyptic sound!

The Qobuz sound quality is generally excellent. Surprisingly so.

For me it got even better if Qobuz was not played on its app but routed through Foobar.

Its worth comparing a CD/CD-rip 44.1/16 release with only one mastering vs the Qobuz stream, both routed through the same player eg Foobar

For me to get the local CD rip to sound better required some special processing eg via PGGB.

It makes me wonder what Qobuz do to their files to make them sound so great.

PGGB also do " a high performance SDK that can be used by those (such as server vendors) who want to incorporate the remastering into  their playback. "  🤔
