eLicky Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 (edited) The problem I'm finding with music streaming services (partuciallry Tidal) is they sound quite digital and bright in the upper end. The vocals on my system using Tidal are recessed compared to Qobuz, I end up with a V shape sound. On the otherhand Qobuz is more natural sounding or closer to what a CD should sound like IMO. You can tell when playing certain music, tracks will fall apart in refinment and posture using Tidal, sounding harsh and unversatile. Edited October 21, 2024 by eLicky 1
Blooloo Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Looking forward to the real Qobuz Connect being rolled out in 2025.

Blooloo Posted January 5 Posted January 5 9 minutes ago, Snoopy8 said: What will it do ??? It'll be Qobuz's version of Spotify Connect or Tidal's Tidal Connect. That means you can, from your phone or tablet screen start to play a track in Qobuz - then by going to the little icon which tells you what device you're currently using to listen (up till now your phone or tablet) it'll have any other device that shares your WiFi connect AND (importantly) is approved and available to play Qobuz. If you toggle and change to say an amplifier (for me it'll be my NAD M33) that amp will then start playing Qobuz in whatever resolution the song is. The important thing is that Connect is not streaming from your phone out to the amp, it is now streaming direct from Qobuz servers into said amp - hence very good sound quality. Qobuz have been working on this for a long time and I understand that they are at the beta testing phase now - so maybe later in 2025? 2

I don't use the Qobuz phone app to play music on my system. Instead, I use LMS (Lyrion Media Server) and its Qobuz plugin which connects directly to Qobuz server (???). Not sure how Qobuz Connect will improve things? I recall Tidal Connect being launched with huge hype a few years ago. Yes, it can free up vendors from developing and supporting their own Tidal connector but I wonder whether it improves SQ? And is it a differentiator when most vendors have it.
DanFi Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Has anyone downloaded some DSD tracks from Qobuz? how do you find them and are they any different to say a SACD rip? Might be a hard question because the web download may be from a different master than the SACD.

You can only find and buy them via their web download store, not via the mobile or desktop app. https://www.qobuz.com/au-en/search/query/dsd-dxd-catalog They have 15 pages across genres. I haven't tried so I cannot vouch for the sound quality
Blooloo Posted February 26 Posted February 26 That's the Australian store link which is applicable to me but your mileage may vary...

I haven't tried so I cannot vouch for the sound quality You can compare the files with dB database (loudness wars) to see if you can identify whether sources and quality are different. What I’m not sure of is when Qobuz offers the same album/track in DSD64 & 24/176.4 (MJ / Thriller for example) are they from the same master? They don’t give any history other than the label (Epic).
DanFi Posted February 26 Posted February 26 I found this. https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/21554-dsd-sacd-rip-vs-dsd-download/ indicated that there was a difference between the rip and the download. Thinking this is to do with the dad stream been compressed to fit on the disc. Maybe.
frankn Posted February 26 Posted February 26 There are a couple of sites that have test files using the same masters but output differing formats/resolution so you can try out comparisons. however, you need to ensure the DAC you are using doesn’t process/filter the DSD and PCM files completely differently. In the real world tho the source of the masters is fraught and matters more than whether it’s DSD or Higher res PCM. At the end of the day the result is subjective, so pick the ones you like and enjoy.
