Hi all I have the above amp and the other day it lost all it bass and developed a loud hum. It doe's the same through head phones and another pair of speakers. Where can I send it to in Melbourne to have it rectified? Is it a major job? I paid $400 for it, Is it worth doing?

Thanks

No idea on the cost of repair as it depends on the cause, but they are a very nice amp (used to have one), likely could do with a full recap as well as identifying the fault and fixing that, well worth it.

In Melbourne I'm not sure.

@GerrySem

You could try the Marantz distributor - Qualifi

24 Lionel Rd, Mount Waverley VIC 3149

(03) 8542 1144

service@qualifi.com.au

I have a copy of the service manual I can provide if it's required.

The sucker bet is the main filter caps, however there is some merit in this case, considering the loss of bass. Would be nice to confirm hum is rectified AC (100Hz) rather than mains hum (50Hz), mobile phone app, freeware(audacity) and others can measure. PM me with your location, I'm in W Brunswick, happy to replace main caps only (parts cost only). This is a punt, no guarantee. If hum is 50Hz then need to look elsewhere.

yep, I have one of these and think it is a very nice amp. id say the cost of repair is worth it considering if you were to buy a new amp today to the same quality you'd probably be paying into the thousands.

But trust your own ears on that.

Thanks for that info on Qaulifi in Melbourne Aaron. Spoke with them this morning, they said no problems bring it in, Wait should be 2 or 3 weeks and the technician turns out to be a Old Marantz Groupie from way back. It was a very uplifting conversation and I shall keep you all posted.
